You need a way to keep node hosts and bandwidth consumption honest on a truly decentralized platform. Since there is no centralized provider/authority, without the blockchain, a node host can fake data usage and charge an end-user for 2GB of data when they only used 1GB as an example. This is why the blockchain and network validators/stakers are needed. Validators put up SENT as collateral, and earn rewards for validating all transactions in a decentralized matter. There are many more advantages that using a blockchain introduces. SENT will also allow other tokens to be used for bandwidth payment using the Cosmos interoperatable IBC protocol.
