One of the best quotes I've heard since I've been on /biz/: "In the crypto world, the price is the news."

BAT/Brave can announce all the positive indicators they want. They can show you that it's a growing project with solid fundamentals and a strong team behind it. None of that matters in crypto. The only thing that matters is the price. That's literally it.

If BAT pumps to $1, we all know the plebs will start talking. That's why it has always been my opinion that a solid BAT pump would be extremely beneficial for the project. It would bring so many more users on board for their chance to make some BAT. I think Brave understands that and that's partly why the price stays artificially suppressed. Maybe they're not ready for the massive influx of users/attention a BAT pump would bring.

because it actually has a concrete business plan, which makes it harder to meme. It's a privacy browser that make money by selling opt-in ads.

Chainlink is a lot like 2016 Trump where it's a blank canvas that you can do anything with, Trump 2020 isn't getting the same amount of quality memes because he's a known commodity now. We know exactly what BAT is so all we can really do is wait, the only way it will pump is the way a conventional business pumps, by putting out revenue numbers and increasing users.

Correct. If you open a new tab you can see "estimated rewards" which don't always accurately reflect how much you'll earn on next payment date, but usually do.

It's my humble opinion that we absolutely need utility in the crypto world or it's all just fucking vaporware bullshit. If nobody is using cryptocurrency for anything besides pump & dump shilling bullshit, it's all useless dogshit. BAT is actually useful, and hopefully its price will reflect its utility some day.

I don't think Brave's success necessarily relies on the immediate failure of Facebook/Google. It relies on their failure over time, and not necessarily the COMPANY'S failure, but rather the advertising models of these companies.

Their advertising models are already in constant flux and decline. They've been proven fraudulent and unsustainable over and over. People are pretty constantly catching on to the harmful data harvesting that has been going on.

This shit is a slow burn, but if Brave/BAT can keep chugging ahead, and the BAT ecosystem can really take off, then we'll have a slow shift to a new way to use the internet. Might never happen, and if it does it'll take like a decade.

Anyways that's my take. Doesn't mean BAT will ever be worth shit, though.

Brave hinges on its success as well as the shortcomings of competitors in the ad market, and browser market.

The thing about brave is that google and facebook don't have to be dismantled. Brave just needs to build an ad platform that is competitive with market rates. The competition on google and facebook just drives ad prices higher and higher. Theres less competition on brave right now so a prudent ad agency should buy space before the rest of the market catches up. If anyone remembers google and facebook when their ad suites launched, early advertisers were raking in money hand over fist because nobody caught on. When everyone copied them the cash dried up but the platform started raking in all the cash.

You don't get it though, spam never made that much money. The targeted adds the big guys sell make INSANE amounts of money. Some clicks on stuff like debt consolidation go for like $50+ on Adwords. $50 a fucking click.

I've used some of the newer FB offerings too, some suck, but some are amazing, like the pay per instant message one. For a huge percentage of businesses, it is better to put their money into the pay per IM thing than any other kind of advertising. Bang for buck is insane and FB is starting to beat the whole "ad blindness" thing by Skinner boxing people so hard with their platform.

I really don't see the big guys going anywhere, the advantage they have for stuff like demographic targeting is just too crazy with too much traffic.

It's going to be a niche advertising platform for a long time, maybe even forever. I think Brave's big bet is on the whole privacy aspect of the platform. There isn't an advertising platform on the entire internet that respects your privacy at such a global scale as Brave/BAT do. That's a solid advantage to have over these big guys.

It is like pay per click, or cost per action, except you pay Facebook per direct message received by your businesses page. >> No.21560916

Google does so well because their ad system intent based. You make a search query and you get an ad for what your looking for. Facebook is disruption based and they have to go off interests and tracking to find something you may like.

Brave does a little bit of both and rate limits while also rewarding you. Attribution is also handled a little bit better and advertisers are not billed just because someone has scrolled through 85 ads on their fb feed.

Going through braves github it looks like they are building a pretty solid ad system. They apply scores to keywords and weights for frequency. On google if you type toyota camry you will get a toyota camry ad no matter what, and then a tracking pixel follows you around later for retargeting.

With brave you can type toyota camry and a score will be given and then a weight based on how many times the word has been pulled from a page or typed into other queries. Your browser knows what is happening outside of the google search query and can deliver the ad when a threshold is met as opposed to just a straight keyword signaling the ad. For all we know i could just be looking for the mpg on my toyota camry and the search query had no reason to bring up the ad.

Overall it looks like brave is trying to carve out a pretty fkn huge chunk of the digital advertising market with a well thought out product. Having the full corpus of browser data goes much further than facebook or google with single queries or tracking data and retargetting which most people find creepy.

I mean, BAT still targets users. The data is just stored client side rather than being shilled to third parties. Like I said, it's niche. Not everybody needs to target someone on X Boulevard in Y neighborhood who bought New Balance shoes last Thursday. Sometimes you just want to advertise in a specific city, or to a certain demographic. Don't need cookies for that.

I stepped away for a couple months earlier this year due to other obligations but I'm back in the saddle now. Getting the BAT page back up on meme atlas has been on my to-do list for a while so I'm glad I finally put that one to bed. I don't know if it's healthy or not but I have now named over 5,100 different pepe's, wojak's, brainlet's, grug's, boomer's, zoomer's, bobo's and now BAT memes.

I'm getting around 300 unique users a day now according to google analytics which is pretty cool too. I'd like to advertise it on the 4chan banners but new moot won't return my emails for an ad campaign, so I'm stuck just shilling my website in these threads and hoping the jannies don't ban me. I'd like for meme atlas to be on the same level as knowyourmeme one day, which might be possible because 4chan has 22 million users per month. So I appreciate the shout out anon, we're all gonna make it. Also I'm on here all the time obviously so I'll monitor the BAT threads to see if any new memes pop up and add them.

Not to mention that targeting is a somewhat flawed system. People get served ads for products they just bought a week ago.

A criminal defense lawyer could spend $200 per click on google because they are competing with 80 other lawyers in their city, or they could move to brave before the crowd and compete with maybe 1 or 2 other lawyers and pay $5 per click. Lots of people advertise on dogshit ad networks like twitter or snapchat because the impressions and clicks are cheap. The ad systems are cobbled together and slapped on top and called a product. Brave is a little more deliberate, and has way more functionality and better ad product, but has to build a big audience.

That isn't quite how it works though. Being able to advertise your product exclusively to people with positive net worth and credit cards, for instance, is worth a shit ton. Advertisers use all that extra data to predict and derive information.

Why do you think Plenty of Fish is still around? Sign up for an account there, notice how you are asked your income, personal habits, lifestyle etc.

Some of that shit matters to members of the opposite sex looking for a date, ALL of it is data worth $$$ to the people paying for ads on that site, ALL of it is used to target you with ads.

PoF has incredible data, and their ads make people who buy them fucking bank, consistently, so it will hang on and never die, no matter how successful Tinder gets, because Tinder doesn't dig in and get the fucking goods like PoF.
