22070733 No.22070733 [Reply] [Original]

The DECO acquisition is in many ways similar to the Town Crier acquisition. You need to ask why would Chainlink BUY these tools when they could just use them? What is the point in owning TLS access and TEEs instead of just integrating them alongside your solution?
The answer, of course, is that Chainlink is developing a monopoly across the entire "processing and execution" L2 layer. Now if an oracle contender wants customisable TLS access, or TEE processing through Town Crier, they either have to pay Chainlink, or develop their own solution from the ground up. But it goes further than this. Chainlink owning these tools means they can literally control who gets to use them. Another big player wants to get in on the oracle game? Good luck, Chainlink literally owns the ancillary toolkit.

The forethought and monopolistic vision that this represents would be terrifying, if I wasn't all-in LINK already. The challenges of even a major, established contender presenting an alternative oracle solution are increasing monthly. This isn't just Chainlink pulling ahead, it's Chainlink pulling up the ladder behind them.

yeah, i've said this before and i'll say it again. it's chainlink truly believing that they can be the only solution and all it's doing is slowing down innovation. monopolies in tech don't ever work out because at the end of the day, especially things that exist in code only because there will always be people out there that know how to do this and will provide the same solution to a competitor, either through hiring or just open source.
with more and more interest coming into this space, that's what's really going to happen.
sergey is playing this like he's in the pharma industry, but things don't work like that here.

One thing that really bugs me about these acquisitions is they're still in development. There's a lot more testing and work needed to make these production ready. It seems like Chainlink is featuring these acquisitions to legitimize their existing product, but there's still a lot more steps in integration and that's going to take a lot of time.

The $20 token is overvalued for its existing product, but the $20 price tag is undervalued if the product integrates with TC and DECO successfully.

NEW YORK, Aug. 29, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Smart Contract Summit -- Chainlink, the most widely used decentralized financial data source, securing over $3B in value, announced today that it has acquired DECO from Cornell University. DECO is an improvement on how to utilize HTTPS/TLS for data transmission across the internet, developed by Dr. Ari Juels, the former Chief Scientist of RSA, one of the world's largest security companies. Juels previously formalized Proof of Work, which is now used to secure the more than $300B in cryptocurrency stored across Bitcoin, Ethereum and thousands of other cryptocurrencies.

>Chainlink owning these tools means they can literally control who gets to use them.
Something I noticed in an AMPL interview was that Brandon basically said that CL opened doors for them to get the API's they needed to make the project a reality. Before that moment they had trouble getting the attention from data-providers. Every release is probably calculated by Sergey in accordance with his vision for the next 1-5-10-20 years.

calling anything that points out an actual issue fud is pretty fuckin dumb at this point
we've all made money, unrealized or realized off link now, i held since post-ICO same as most of you retards
but to call everything fud because they're going about things the same way they did with TC? like it's just repeating itself all over again
only difference is, now there's a demand for dec. oracle services, so devs with a lot of money behind them are coming in and we don't know for certain anymore what will happen with chainlink
and that's the problem. sergey was always a lightyear ahead because no one cared, now that there's money involved and no way to truly keep anything proprietary since there are many ways to do this, we've run into an issue that chainlink won't address
but yes, please continue calling anything that merits discussion fud because that's always worked out well in every project with ultra-loyalists that are married to their investment

it's a two years old startup and they already pulled two mergers and acquisitions
when it happened with town crier I thought this is fucking nuts, no one in the blockchain space is doing shit like this except maybe ripple, they're just a completely different beast, on the surface there's all this idealistic babble about helping third world farmers gaining fairer insurance or whatever bullshit, but these guys are sharks and even with all the money flooding and scams going on crypto is still an ocean of dolphins because up until now it was still driven by tech nerds, engineers, with the vcs hiding in the shadows, now sirgay is the first full blown vc ceo taking over in the space, satoshi was a nerd, vitalik was a nerd, sirgay is a pro, delegating the tech to steve and ari, a rare unicorn
two fucking acquisitions in two fucking years, and now they're talking about having twenty years plans and have the treasury to back that up, this shit is an unstoppable train, imagine thinking ta is in any way relevant when yo understand the forces at play here, the scaling up is massive and unrivaled in the space, these guys want to eat the whole cake and they're only just beginning, i remember just one year ago the joke rumors about them buying clause for instance, gonser invested, today it's still a midget startup, now they could buyout for crumbs, and they'd own the contract drafting phase that comes later... turn on your brain and you understand this will likely come in 2022..24.. etc... once the network is mature, chainlink stable, what comes next is smartcontract now dormant will rise like the phoenix and also eat that whole ease of use, boomer adoption market, they'll have a finger in every pie, it's a giant being built slowly piece by piece, but with every piece you realize they're owning the whole field and destroying rivals before they even show up, my pussy is wet just thinking about it

you know how blockchain has this appeal, like internet in its early days, where any ideological side can project their own fantasies onto it and it still works, like the commies can fantasize about this allowing their decentralized utopia for a fairer world and how they can draft smart contracts to save the rain forests from global warming lol or other bs like censorship resistant social media or press etc, while the kikes can see how it's about reducing the middleman and improving the profit margin by 1% so it's a perfect tool for bankers rubbing their hands, eth was so powerful because it has this ambiguity, something like ripple meanwhile alienates the commies and only interests the capitalists, you can apply the analysis to any other project and you'll understand none has this unique quality to such an extent, except link, the genius of link is they can hide behind the excuse of utopian idealistic bs (very important to attract devs in open source, and for OPTICS in silicon valley etc) while at the core being a purely kiked project.... hence handshakes with swift, wef, etc
and unlike ripple, which i think is on its way out, it's not saying 'we're competing with the banks, we're going to replace them', they're saying 'dude just keep your legacy system, let us just handle the bridge', this is how you build powerful allies instead of powerful rivals
of course it's likely the reason buterin hates sirgay's guts

Came here to say this. Chainlink can't monopolize anything, competitors will appear over night. Not to mention they're late to the party on many of these things. They're stealing ideas and solutions that already exist, calling it Beta, mainnet soon. Only the fanatics get excited about this.

Chainlink is trying to monopolize every aspect of crypto and they've yet to complete one.

what is a network effect nigger
they have BILLIONS in their treasury already to fund their scaling up, competition is still in their garages while chainlink is opening factories
did you even take a look at their open positions? opening offices all over the world, being able to hire all the best talent, dozens of marketing hires, the aggressiveness of it all, etc. they have the best branding, the resume, the reputation, the charismatic ceo, the narrative, endorsed by the elite networks, the fanatic community, at this point tech doesn't even matter anymore, marketing does, link's already won
