A stake in a company that has an obligation to make a profit for stakeholders. Shittoken scammers issue a token to retards and have no obligation to do anything. They don't even have a profitable business model or even a business plan.

I don't think anyone can "defend it". Depends on what you mean by the word. You should "understand" why there are so many. Are you confused by it? I'd be very surprised if there aren't a lot more that aren't being counted.

Theres quite a few cryptocurrencies that offer products that are considered valuable, ethereum and chainlink for example offer real world products beyond the shitcoin gambling you see on biz. If you cannot understand this, I'm not sure what to tell you. When you "own" a share, it's just a digital sheet of paper that declares you own a share, even though you cannot do whatever you want with it, and you actually don't even own it. Your brokerage holds it for you. That is a huge world of difference between crypto and stocks the freedom to do whatever you want and brand new technology is right in front of you, and you still can't see it.

You're comparing Apple stock (or any stock for that matter) to a token that is suppose to serve a function and isn't even needed for said function and implying that this nonstake you have in Chainlink is the same as having a stake in a publicly traded company.

Take the dotcom bubble and make it open source, this is basically what you get. Nobody in their right mind thinks even 30 percent of these are valuable.
Add in the fact there are tons of dead coins in that number but failed internet startups get delisted, the list also serves as an obituary depending on how you look at it.
Caveat emptor.
