you don't need a furnace, you can melt silver with a propane torch if you have a crucible and some time.

you carve a figure out of wax, leaving 2 wax straws or sticks poking up from it. Then you suspend it in a container with the straws sticking out a little. Then you pour the container full of plaster around the wax figurine. After the plaster dries put the whole thing in a pan and bake it in the oven to melt the wax out of it. The two wax straws will leave 2 holes in the plaster cast. Widen one out at the mouth to pour the silver in. Melt your silver with the torch, and then using tongs or a fireproof mitt, carefully pour the silver into the hole until it starts to come out the other ventilation hole. Let it cool, break the plaster cast, and clean the silver object. Cut off the sticks from the pour and ventilation holes.
