Alright, bare with me, trying to understand.

Let's say I bought 800 bucks worth of ETH a few days ago.
And then ETH has actually gone down in worth the past three days.
I want to spend the ETH I have on GRT. What do I expect for tax? Nothing?

Mirroring that, let's pretend ETH doubled so I have 1600 worth of ETH. I then convert half of that ETH into GRT. What then?

Sorry if it's obvious stuff, it's fairly confusing and I don't want to get fucked on taxes in some weird way. Seems the IRS has some weird fucking systems for crypto logic. I'd rather throw money from my bank at getting GRT rather than somehow getting taxed for converting.

No problem man. Let me help ya out. In the first scenario, whenever you sold the Eth that had gone down, a capital loss occured. You take the cost basis (whatever you paid for the ETH) and figure the difference between it and the current price you sold at. So lets say you paid 800 for some ETH, but sold it for GRT when that same amount of ETH was worth 750. You have a capital loss of 50.

In the second scenario, Your capital gain would be $400. You are expected to pay short term (if held less than 1 year) or long term (held longer than 1 year) capital gains on every single transaction where this occurs. You'd have to look up the long term rate - I don't know it off the top of my head. The short term rate is right around 30% or so. So in the second scenario, you made 400 capital gains. you are expected to pay uncle sam 30% of that.

For some unknown reason, of course. I have yet to figure out why these motherfuckers think they have any right to ANY of that money, and, frankly, deserve to be led to guillotine for even suggesting I pay them ANYTHING at ALL.

Hope that helps.

Can someone explain me to the utility of delegating GRT to indexers? From my understanding, a portion of query fees that are given to a particular index go to those that have staked to allow these transactions to occur. Do we have any idea of how profitable this might be? I see a lot of text addressing the measures put in place as a disincentive to indexer malfeasance, but how can one be sure that their stake will be safe? What is the utility of staking vs. holding and waiting to sell at a higher price?

Thank you so much, I think I get it. So basically, unless there's a capital gain, I pay no taxes when I convert a coin to a coin because it's a loss. But any gain I've made, basically just factor in 30% to the tax man if I spend it. Got it, thank you. Time to convert some ETH to GRT without worry!

Also I agree, it seems ridiculous that they treat crypto as property. It's like instead of coin > coin it's coin > usd > coin > usd, so they can get their tax money.

No way to .5.

Will hold its pattern to 1 by tomorrow.

Will probably hit 89 fall to a low of .75, floor .8 do again at .96/7 FLOOR .90 and then vary between .95 and 1.05. Probably just keeps gaining. Might hold for a day or two. Probably keeps going. It's a beautiful coin.
