Has /biz ever thought about mining for gold, as in the actual shiny boomer rocks? I live in California near the Sierras and there's still some left here. But it's rough work, at best I can only get 1 gram of gold a day because machine use is illegal in CA

Sounds like fun honestly. Go innawoods by a river and splash some water around

Ya, I'm in Australia and there's a lot of gold here too. Thinking about setting up automated machines in a secluded area of a river to set and forget but haven't found any good solutions

Hey dude 209 here i have a gold claim off of highway 49 and 3 weeks ago i spent 5 day up at the north fork of the merced River at Solomons gulch, I get decent gold, you get out far enough in nature and no one will ever bother you about machine use, I primarily use a gold monster 1000 and a keen sluice box

You can see half dome from the top of the mountains in Solomons gulch, 3k people lived in the valley in the 49'r days and now not a soul lives there, make sure you always carry a gun while gold prospecting i always see evidence of bears and mountain lions and all sorts of animals, seen a big ass mountain lion crossing the road on my way back from that trip too

Let's say I knew of an area that might have ancient gold jewlery buried under it. Would this gold monster 1000 be enough to detect it?
What I'm asking is, how far underground can this thing feel? And if it can't, do you have recommendations for what can?

Native gold and silver can be found in nugget form but silver is more rare in this state as it prefers to fore as alloys such as galena / argentite etc.
>>25169538
build a river sluice and wing dam when the water is low. make sure its dug into the gravels well enough so it doesnt wash away in rains. Retrieve your gold the next season. You can also just dig out drain culverts too, they often carry good gold so long as the insides riffled not flat.

Todd Hoffman is a loud mouth, doesnt pay his bills and in general made the placer mining world look like a joke, he fucked up so badly that it caused government regulation to step in and start scrutinizing our industry harder. Wow. I used to follow his shows and also the other gold mining shows - the guys diving in Gnome (with the crazy chick with the even crazier dad), the guys in the jungle, the guys on Greenland, the other guys in Alaska...gold mining is somehow great material for a show and it seems to attract some characters alright. Don't tell me Tony Beets is also hated and a fuckup? I mean how great TV is that guy?

>> No.25172511

>>25172422
no hes actually a mining legend in the Yukon district because hes worked himself near to death perfecting the art of mining. There are a lot more guys in the placer world like Todd who come in for a season or two than go utterly broke and are never heard from again. Very very few people actually make it placer mining, and those few do so because they put the effort in.
I would have paid anything to have met Parker schnabel's grand father, guys like him are nearly all gone and their knowledge of their particular areas goes with them when they die.
