Understanding Media is literally THE book on that. People have been ranting about it for 50 years. Again, when reading it you have to remember the Internet would'nt come along for another 3-4 decades, so he's just covering all media since pre-literate societies up until the 1960s, but when you apply the model to the Internet everything makes sense.

The Internet is the first media form that reversed the trend of centralization that started around 5000 BC and has continued until around 2003. With the Internet, instead of all the information coming from a Hollywood studio or a New York newspaper, every single person is now both a publisher and consumer, that the whole thing is completely decentralized and distributed all over the entire world.

When you read the book, and consider that the Internet is now the dominant media form, you understand why we suddenly have so many mass shootings and terrorist attacks, but why WW3 is probably impossible. And you understand why Bitcoin is inevitable and that we are all gonna make it.

But read Basic Economics by Sowell too.
