How do I go about starting my own business when I don't have a killer idea and just want to bust ass at something? I absolutely despise the work I'm doing (front line IT for a home automation and security company) and I need a way to channel my autism. I feel extremely underutilized at work and it has me more depressed than covid.

Buy a fuckin' Taco Bell. The initial start up cost is high as far as the industry goes, but the franchise fees are some of the lowest. And they let you be am absentee owner once you get it up and running. Rinse/repeat.
A guy I used to work for owned office buildings. He told me about a guy in the midwest that basically collected Taco Bell restaurants. His total profits form his 400+ locations was greater than the profits of the actual Taco Bell corp.

If you can get capital just buy an existing profitable business. There’s a good book you can read about this called “Buy Then Build.”

Otherwise just pick anything you have some interest in. If you really have the drive and you put the work in to succeed, you’ll already be better off than 90% of other business owners and will find you can compete easily.
