How do I actually, step by step, buy a stock? Where do I go, how do I make an account or whatever I need, what should I look out for, do I need some kind of insurance or other legal proceedings?

unironically BTC should be your first. If you can't handle the volatility of something that's basically guaranteed to go up over a long enough timeline, you're gonna lose all your money when you try to bet on smaller mcap coins.

if you are in the US, look at Fidelity. you probably already have a 401k with them, and they are good for brokerage as well.

you want to open up an individual brokerage account, fund it from your bank account, and then purchase the stocks you want. you are limited in the numbers of trades you can make in a year with a basic account.

call Fidelity customer service if you have a problem. they are very helpful

Only if you live in Bongistan. In addition to stocks insurance you will need your Duke's signature on your Proof-of-Cuckholdry.
And of course, don't forget to renew your computing loicense if you haven't already done so.
After this, you should be ready to sell and buy stocks at your local Tesco
