OR you can post a sell limit so that when the stock exceeds a certain price, you'll sell at that price automatically. When a call you wrote expires in the money and you do not own 100 shares (the hedgies aren't writing covered calls like some boomer, they are writing naked calls), your broker will buy the shares for you with a market order to give to the person who purchased the option.

Some brokers, like robinhood, assume you are too poor to actually buy the 100 shares so they turn around and sell the shares for the buyer automatically. But a lot of the options are not owned by retail, they're owned by other smart money, so the net effect will be a lot more market buys than market sells at 4:00pm.
