Buy SLV, not PSLV. PSLV is run by a paranoid goldbug, anti-lockdown protestor and Ron Paul supporter called Eric Sprott. It was just delisted from Robinhood. SLV is run by and for reputable banking establishments like JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs. I also recommend the Perth Mint ETF which was just renamed the Goldman Physical Gold ETF.

>Bitcoin is purchased mainly for the purpose of becoming filthy rich in a very short period of time,
Completely disagree. Moonboys are cancer, and I agree with that, but many of us buy Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Monero because of the immense long term potential of them. Bitcoin is purchased because it is an emerging asset class.
>what is intrinsic value?
Bitcoin has intrinsic value because it's name is synonymous with cryptocurrency. It is the "gold" of crypto currency and it's transparency is both a blessing and a curse. Consider Bitcoin as digital real estate.
Ethereum is almost entirely ponzi schemes (erc 20 tokens) but there are usecases that are emerging with it, such as stable coins and decentralized finance.
Monero is used on the black market because of its privacy, so if there were a market wide crash, Monero would still be sought after and used. This usecase means it has value.
>Bitcoin has no intrinsic value because its only allure, it's transactability and hardness are not intrinsic to it
Wrong. It's value is that you know, and can prove, how many Bitcoin exists at any current moment. This is extremely valuable because it's supply can't be manipulated. It is also much easier to send and transact than Gold/Silver.
>without the miners, or without a safe network (51% attack), Bitcoin is worthless
Agreed, but because miners have an incentive it means the network will last, as has been proven over the last decade.

Bitcoin not a store of value for the simple reason that there exist scenarios in which Bitcoin becomes worthless
now the average person, who sees no longer than his stomach and dick may say that nothing will ever happen to the network and that Bitcoin will be fine - but those who see further than their stomach and dicks; Monarchs, central Banks, Nation States, dynasties and institutions that have stood for hundreds, sometimes thousands of years simply cannot take that risk with their long term wealth because there is no worse fear for an investor than being wiped out - and with Bitcoin that is a real possibility
with gold however, that will never happen
even if billions of ounces of gold were to rain down on us this instant gold would still retain some of its value as its industrial uses would skyrocket - remember that the main reason we don't use gold in industry more is that it's just too expensive

I have some questions for those with a solid grasp of the underlying economics of the silver market and the manipulation by the moneylenders. I have a decent understanding of the concept of shorts and a fractional reserve in general, but I want to make sure I can understand this very well when I go to tell my family and friends in the next few weeks.

So what we have is JP Morgan managing Comex and the SLV ticker, and we understand that they have way, way more (orders of magnitude more) SLV stock than actual physical ounces of silver. My question boils down to this; how do they get away with it?

You and I going to the LCS or ordering online run into premiums, which are essentially a recognition that the real demand and supply isn't reflected in the spot price. So then I guess the retail suppliers (for people like us) pay the smelters more, in order to mint more coins for retail purposes, who then pay the miners more, and I guess industrial buyers see this reflected in needing to up their prices since the common man has taken up more interest.

Here's where we really get to my question. How exactly is the SLV price even affected buy the drying up in physical supply? Can't they just buy a bit less and issue a few million more in stock? Let's just say that the current short squeeze campaign is a massive success, and the real price to buy an ounce of physical silver is $50 in two months... will the "spot" price and the real price just divorce? Why does SLV need to respond to actual price pressure at all? What is the relation?

JM = JMbullion. I'm saying that if you get odd shapes/brands of bars you will tend to pay a premium, whereas the generic mass produced stuff like buffalo rounds or silvertowne bars will be much closer to spot. If you are looking to make small purchases steadily, ebay is usually gonna be your best bet, but if you spend $100 or more at one time at Monumentmetals then you will get free shipping (other dealers have a $200 minimum right now). Typically the less silver you buy at once, the higher the cost, unless you find a sale where it is "any quantity" for the same price.

For example, see this link:
https://monumentmetals.com/2020-south-africa-1-oz-silver-krugerrand-bu.html

$2.50 over spot for a government minted coin is a fair price, but you only need to get 4 to qualify for free shipping.

I think the only reason the price of SLV would go up due to a physical shortage is that SLV and real physical silver are (incorrectly) viewed as nearly the same thing. The way I understand it is that it only works as a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy. Investors who don't know any better or don't care because they only want to make a quick buck see that the price of physical silver going up so they buy shares of SLV which drives the price of SLV up. The problem is, as you pointed out, that SLV is not actually backed by real silver, it can create paper silver out of thin air, and so it may go up in response to the price of physical increasing, but it will not cause the price of physical to go up. This is why anyone who is not working for these banks, or being mislead by them will tell you that if you want a silver ETF you should buy PSLV because PSLV actually has to back up their shares with real physical silver because anybody, not just their crony banks, can take physical delivery of real metal from PSLV. Therefore buying PSLV can actually have a significant impact on the price of physical silver.

>but is it too risky to buy if the mark is not visible?

Yes, avoid anything without an image of the "STERLING" or "925" stamps or appropriate hallmarks indicating fineness of the alloy because many sellers are retards and think nonprecious or plated items are silver. You want to find the freshly listed Buy it Now items listed by the kind of retard who doesn't recognize the melt value of what they have. Good deals get gobbled up within minutes so to have a chance at the best deals you must search "sterling" in the "Antiques" category (no further subcategory refinement necessary), Buy-it-Now items only and sorted most recently listed first. Then you periodically refresh the search looking for legit vintage/antique sterling stuff with a stated weight and price+shipping+tax enough below spot to be worth it. You need to think fast because people like me with hands-on experience can just look at a picture or 2 and calculate everything and then buy within seconds.

My personal price limit was $0.50/gram of sterling so I could get ingots of refined pure silver returned from my refinery at a total cost below $20/ozt (my informal limit after enjoying cheapies in the spring), but the competition is fierce right now so you may want to be willing to spend a bit more. The high-class sterling I keep in the viking treasure hoard or use and decorate with to flex on plebs. If you luck upon lovely antique pieces priced below spot I guarantee that they will provide beauty and enjoyment beyond what any normal coin or ingot ever will. Finnanon here with his superb Portugese bowl demonstrates how much aesthetic pleasure such pieces provide.

The big centerpiece bowl holding the scrap for melting in pic weighs 1,640 grams (48.8 OZT pure silver) and is a magnificent thick sturdy patrician piece made by a high-end silversmith in London in 1915, paid $495 total and will never melt it. I've found sterling below $0.10/gram on eBay but don't hold your breath. Good luck stacking fren!

they'd all have to buy at least 1000oz each and by the time they do that zhang and achmed would have dumped their massive loads for profit

Is this an optimal time for someone who's never owned silver to buy? We're at the higher end of historical prices. Gotta start somewhere I guess.

Or what would actually happen is they each buy 10 oz, the price starts to skyrocket as supply dries up, creating a feedback loop that causes normalfags to start buying silver, causing the price to spike more until shorts are wrecked and institutions start buying silver as an asset to hedge their fiat.

Anyone else correct me if I'm wrong. The play is in essence the same as GME but a bit different. There are currently 186x more paper silver in this world than physical, which means that they just have empty contracts that are not backed (like the naked short). The current shorts keep the pricepoint low so if we can pump this then the idea is to pump this so they have to buy the shares (aka silver) which would crunch the silver market. In theory they would be able to buy on the market/COMEX but if there is no silver that would mean that the price would be going up.

After that it would be questionable if SLV (and possibly PSLV) has the amount of silver which should cause a bankrun in physical silver because they will figure out that their silver contract only covers 1/186 of an ounce so they would like to have it as soon as possible.

Alternatively buy PSLV and try to crunch COMEX, should have a similar effect.

All in all it would be a quite easy and small financially speaking ploy that could have massive consequences.

I've read somewhere that BlackRock claimed they added 191 million of ounces of silver last year to their reserves, which would actually be around 80% of all investment silver produced during the whole year. Do you think that's possible? Can't find source tho so maybe it's nothing.

If you own a car that doesn't put you in the top 1% of vehicle owners that puts you in the top 100% of vehicle owners because you now own a fucking vehicle.

>>27172267

Immediately? Not much. The banks that would be affected by the short squeeze have been playing the game for so long and have so so many other assets to cover their positions that it won't cause too much disruption to their balance sheets.

The point isn't to hurt the banks in the short term - the point is to force a default in the Comex, which now basically announces to the world that the King has no clothes. They don't have the physical stores to back up the paper market they float around to keep the price of Gold & Silver controlled to around were they want it, meaning the paper value is now detached from the real value of Silver.

This would hurt the banks massively because people will then start trading the fiat currency stored at the bank, which the bank then uses to loan out via the magic of fractional reserve banking so they pay you a minuscule amount of interest but get a huge amount of interest back from their loans, and will start moving to hard assets like Silver as the price starts to moon.

My guess is it would be a repeat of 2008 as the banks that short precious metals couldn't meet their liabilities all of a sudden, causing a solvency crisis to ripple through the economy. This would probably lead to more bail-outs, causing even more inflation down the line... or alternatively a currency collapse.
Just theory-crafting.
