The problem with the question "Does money buy happiness?" is that too many people are thinking about it from the perspective of getting more money. Instead ask yourself: Would I be less happy if I were 10x poorer? And the answer is basically 100% yes. Because the second version is actually grounded in reality and it's something anyone can imagine

Depends, I'm not rich at all and very sick but I have access to things some rich people may not.

dumb rich people aren't.
smart rich people are.

dumb rich people just blow their money on material goods and services and once they've experienced all life has to offer they have to seek joy in depravity. this generally leads to a very fucked up existence.

smart rich people will invest their money into business ventures and find joy in trying to improve the world or themselves.

for me, i don't care about being mega wealthy, just comfortably free of the oppressive system. where if i get hurt or killed in an accident i won't have to worry about my family having a roof over their heads or living a life substandard to that which i'm currently providing.

so i guess i'm not really looking for money to bring me happiness, but the freedom to be happy that i'm not in danger of being eaten by the system.

There have been a few interesting studys done on wealthy people vs. poor people's happiness and where the income to happiness ratio is at its peak.

(This was about 10 years ago, so numbers adjust accordingly)

72k a year was the point at which higher earners did not necessarily report happiness being much higher.

Meaning, a 5 million dollar a year earner was not on average happier than a 72k a year earner.

This was pretty interesting because it tended to show that once your basic needs were met, you had some stability, could build equity in a home put your children into decent schools, have better health care, better diet, take a decent vacation, any income higher than meeting those needs doesn't statistically equate to higher happiness.

Obviously that doesn't mean someone couldn't say they were less happy at 72k a year before earning 2 million a year, but on average that is not the case.

TLDR: About 80k a year (adjusted for inflation) is the top of the "wealth = happiness" equation.

Crypto isn't fun once you realize how scammy it is, I also have some linkies and uniswap tokens and I threw some money away on #RSR too, but there just isn't enough time in a day. 2016 ICO fever was magical, and while $GME had the same fevor, it wasn't the same and expired in just a week.

Florida real estate is an up and down game, I lost an offer earlier this week over 4k, but closed and sold a property last week for a net profit of 37K in 11 weeks.

The fun part comes from working at night/having an excuse to get dirty and convince people I know/friends to join me.

Most of my time, and depression comes from restraint from buying stuff like a new car, eating out or such - lifestyle changes that stop bleeding cash.

I should stop being a miser, but with corona, restaraunts, clubs and such aren't fun, and my flight/asialand money has just been in savings and safe index funds.

Happiness is definitely relative. There's people here saying that they'd be happy not having to go and work and just sit around doing what they want to all day. I think fulfilment comes from doing things that you don't necessarily want to do though. If everyone did what they wanted then eventually they would get tired or bored of it. Your mind would acclimatise. I think it is all in the mindset, bar being poor, at which point stress sets in.

No, because you'll be just as angry or jaded at the world, if not worse.

THAT HAVING BEEN SAID, being rich means that you are UNINHIBITED TO SEEK HAPPINESS. If you think that kayaking in Vietnam is what will make you happy, having a huge bankroll can fund that. If you want to move to Paris and study art, being rich can fund that.

Money does not equal happiness, but money unlocks the doors such that you can pursue or discover things that may lead to happiness and fulfillment.

I saw the same study, I think. After a certain level of wealth, money tends not to be a factor (whereas other factors like love, health, general attitude etc never stop being factors).

So obviously someone who just won the lottery will be happy at the time, but when they come down from that initial high, the only effect that money has on their happiness is whether it safeguards them against previous miseries of want.

I also think a sense of perspective is important in whether money makes you happy or at least satisfied. Some people might never be satisfied with what they have, always comparing their pile to a bigger pile and desperately wanting more. A poorer person might be grateful they're not worse off, and would be happier with his lot than than the millionaire.

Probably, American women are fucking disgusting compared to asialand women.

Latinas too, can't stand them. I'm probably jaded af or too much 4chan, but - I just don't find what's attractive in latinas/american white women.

I know it's really memeful, especially on /pol/, but, living in Asialand, which for me, is Philippines. Thailand and Japan is really fun, rewarding and happy. Different vibe, fun society and a better nuclear family system/society in general, even if the government support system/services is non-existent.

USA is depressing as fuck, while I know how to navigate socioeconomic climates, it's hard to make friends since it's all so divided and colorful among political lines, where you live, and what you do for a living.

I work in tech, and hate most of the people I work with, not because they're bad people, but because they're all like me.

I try to go into different groups, facebook groups, meetups on meetup.com (it' not really a thing anymore) and break the ice, but it's just harder once you try to talk to people in the late 30's.

I probably have to high walls, or pre-qualify people to quickly, and I wish I didn't, but yeah, USA living does that to me.

I just don't want to connect to people when I'm in the USA, it's not disgust per se, it's just, avoiding conflict. Wish I could fix that or stop caring.

After only profiting 5 digits in 1 year from my business at 21 from a $600 initial investment I can definitely say it has made me happier and gave me a better outlook on life. However it haunts me at the same time since i'm in 5 digit hell and 100k is so far away.

I've made a few mil the past couple years and I wouldn't say I'm unhappy but I'm bored. I have no idea what to direct my energy towards. Building a business would be cool but I have no skills and I'm awfully antisocial. I can't direct other people, my business would just fail.

Japs really are boring for sex, filipinas are where it's at. Especially if they're mixed with Jap genes, spanish genes or white genes. It's a fun country with the race mixing and such, and more fun once you learn the history. No one there knows about their own history, even in Japan.

Kinda sad, all the alphas in those societies were exterminated, by japs and americans.. so all that's left are the ones that were smart enough to survive, but not strong enough to do any change.

I'm White, but I would highly review what asian women look like.

Some are bony af creatures that are scary, but many a filipina, chinese, thai, jap are really beautiful and conservative enough that it's super trad.

Plus the whole fun of being an foreigner in their culture, but yes I know what you mean with the cliche incel and asian.

And that isnt' the case *IF* you go there and pick which one you want.

It is if you only have remains left over in the USA From a sanctuary city.

Same probably goes for Latinas but I'm not a fan of Spanish culture and don't see the joy/nicities of it, that people post about all the time.

If anybody LOST 90% of their wealth in a day, they'd absolutely be sadder, but it's arguable that people born in poor polynesian villages or some shit that have lived with relatively low wealth since day one (but still enough to eat and all) are happier because they have lower expectations.

Overcoming adversity is necessary for human psychological health, yes. Without a reason or purpose or challenge to prove yourself(to yourself at least) life will just be a glob of continuing days melting together until you eventually go full L5.

It definitely makes life easier. But on the flip side you can find plenty of rich people that are broken and miserable and don't know what they have or even rich kids working wage jobs because their parents want to make them "responsible" meaning they dont wanna raise them properly by accepting the fact that they're rich and they're going to be different than others and how to face that fact head on.

That is not so much based around your wealth as much as it is HOW you earn your money. Most people who I know that do nothing all day live off passive income, mainly rental properties. Most of the richest people I know actually are workaholics, and are a slave to a boss, clients or (intelligent but still) debt.
