problem is its 500 companies.

What happens if you includ only the top 150 companies?

Im guessing it would look really insane.

In other words the PE ratios are actually much higher, its just some have remained low thus bringing down the average.

I don't know where to find good statistics on most indexes.

Some cherry picks seem insane, like Telsa, currently the sixth most valuable company in the USA apparently.

Retard here, explain how to interpret this and why the choice of trailing. This seems to imply that we're still a full year away from the top.

Mass damage control. Interest rates going negative, butt fucking the economy full of stimulus. No wonder valuations skyrocket while we calmly watch our medium of exchange go into the gutter

>Retard here, explain how to interpret this and why the choice of trailing.
>Trailing price-to-earnings (P/E) is a relative valuation multiple that is based on the last 12 months of actual earnings. It is calculated by taking the current stock price and dividing it by the trailing earnings per share (EPS) for the past 12 months.
> The price-earnings ratio, or P/E ratio, is calculated by dividing a company's stock price by its earnings from the most recent fiscal year. When people refer to the P/E ratio generically, they are typically referring to the trailing P/E. It is calculated by dividing the current market value, or share price, by the earnings per share (EPS) over the previous 12 months.

the stock market isn't deterministic like this, p/e ratios will drop when investors start losing confidence all at once... it could happen at any time from tomorrow to next year
