in 2016 i bought 5 GTX 1070s for $550 a piece.
I mined. Was making a nice $200 a month.
Bitcoin crashed. Now making $2 a month.
Price of GTX 1070s goes down to $180 a piece.

Yeah not doing that again

tl;dr don't go into mining. It will not last.

Yes, but it is only with the recent rise in ETH price and huge fees. Also EIP-1559 is just around the corner (as usual) which will make mining less profitable.

I originally had 18 GTX1070s, but sold them all after the crash and ETH ASIC arrival. I was also afraid that ETH 2 is just around the corner and that POS will be the norm. Silly me.

either dumb take or this anon is a miner and don't want you to touch his gold mine

mining eth is insanely profitable right now. not only the block rewards are huge, but you make as much from gas fees as from block rewards
even on hobby gaming computer current cost basis is about $400 per eth. chinese mining operations are paying under $100 per eth

hashrate here
https://etherscan.io/chart/hashrate

as you can see, only +25% since one month ago

price went from $700 to $1800 in the same time range (+157%)

eip-1559 will not go live within the next 6 months. even if hashrate gradually tripled between now and then, you basically have enough time to start a mining operation today and be in the green by summer. after which you make even more profit, regardless of eip-1559
