That's literally their job at my company. Their entire day revolves around kissing ass of the clients. I would have an hero'd long ago if I fell into Sales. They also have to spend time with clients and their coworkers outside of work hours doing dumb relationship building shit like axe throwing and other retarded shit. They are also some of the sleezxiest people in my company. You can trust them to tell you the truth about anything.

I am. And very proud of it. Allows me to talk to girls. Allows me to have a large group of friends. Allows me to get better service when I go out. And allows me to make a lot of money.

Everything in life is about selling yourself. The hatred for sales people is based on two things:

People’s weakness- getting suckered all the time and mad at slick talkers

People’s resentment- wishing they were brave enough to close

Try selling something anon. To total stranger. You see what power it can be.

Well, maybe not you you’ll probably piss your girly underwear and start crying

I was a sales guy. It was OK in a way because before that I was a literal hiki, and my first pitches were cringe-inducing "h-hello, c-can I h-help you (oh god pls kill me)" - flinching away from the customer as if they were on fire.

In that way it was useful because I had to develop some social skill just to be able to put food on my table.

It wasn't the career for me, and I'm in IT now, but I can still appreciate a good sales pitch.

It sucks sitting on the sidelines doesn’t it. Your whole life. What a waste.

I guess you get to criticize freely that might be fun for some people. But you will never get to have the feeling of winning. That cocaine rush of closing a sale. Youll be lucky if you get some frumpy boring wife, two loser kids like their dad, a boring long agonizing life. While the “monkeys” take risks and earn thrills

In this life you are either at the table.. or you are on the menu.

Anyway...

> get interview at legal weed gig
> they schedule me while they're giving a facility tour
> wait around for an hour with other candidates for the job
> eventually get to talk to boss
> wasn't hard to convince him that I was the guy he wanted
> get hired
> first day consisted of a sales meeting where the boss threatens to fire everyone because sales were only up 400% from last year
> adjourn meeting with zero instruction on exactly what I'm supposed to be doing
> spend the next day at home taking the initiative to build a file of leads
> get threatened with termination for not showing up for the training I was never told about
> first two weeks of "training" and "learning the company" consist of almost exclusively trimming bud and putting labels on packages
> I get one day of shadowing
> get threatened with termination again because nobody told me that I was shadowing instead of doing grunt work that day
> guy I was shadowing with just delivered packages to clients. No actual sales happened
> "I think you got the hang of this, anon. Go forth and sell."
> drive 6 hours away to the town I was to be selling in
> do ok, but not great because there's way too many questions idk how to answer

Not a much of a conclusion, but that's my life and here I am. Just wanted to bitch about it in between applying for other jobs.

You have to be able to lie to be a salesperson so it really rewards sociopaths and psychopaths anyone who doesn't feel a twinge of remorse or guilt about constantly lying

Worked sales for 2 years, fucking hated it. You have to be 10 different people on a day to day basis. Different levels of politeness, different levels of speaking, different body language, different fucking everything just to pretend that you have a connection with someone long enough to get them to buy whatever stupid shit you're pedalling.

Sure it helps if you believe in the product, I believed in what I sold. I knew we were literally the best in the market (with the luxury pricetags to boot), and I never had any qualms about upselling people since I legitimately believed we offered the finest quality industry could provide. But even then I still felt like I was doing a nothing job; I was just getting a guy to buy a thing that he could have just bought himself with 30 minutes of googling/research.

It's work that tears your very soul from you. That being said I'm a software engineer now and it's only marginally better.

This is EXACTLY the way I feel about my current job. Legit, I work for the best legal cannabis company in America, but I still can't shake the grimy feeling. Unfortunately, I'm not really qualified for anything else except management, which isn't that much better. I might move back to my hometown and learn to weld or something idk. Ideally, I'd like to own my own business, but that takes way more capital than I currently have the ability to get.

Get into an SDR/BDR role. It'll suck but the ones who survive end up moving up to an account executive and start closing deals rather than setting appointments.
Just do not give a fuck. Trust me sales has 0 HR even in megacorps. All that matters is the bottom line. I like money cause it gives me freedom. Everyone else in sales is the exact same. Regardless what these NEETs here say you can meet some really nice and compassionate people in sales. Alot have struggled in life to get where they are. I have many mentors due to this career field because they genuinely do want to see you succeed.

Good products sell themselves. I’ve had sales calls from sales reps before, mainly SaaS stuff. All sleeze bags with 0 technical knowledge but full of flashy words. Best one was some geezer from Salesforce banging on about a Data Lake like we didn’t fucking know what it was (F500 Data Engineering team). He got the Sales Engineer to do all the technical talking, and all he did was tell us about the glorious discounts we could get if we bought soon and signed a lengthy contract. His commission? Probably high, if he sold it. The Sales Engineer (who did a better job than the rep)? Probably not a lot, and with a standard salary.

When companies stop rewarding sales so much, and focus on usable products with good relationship management (i.e technical account managers), the procurement landscape will be a much nicer place. Tech is hot, so it’s not full of autistic introverts anymore, and any sales rep that isn’t actively upskilling their technical skills alongside their sales and RM skills, will get shoved aside
