So FAFSA is asking me for my 2019 tax file, but I never reported that I bought & sold crypto despite the question prompt asking if I did. I’m pretty sure I didn’t have any real net gains since i was a noob. I planned on amending it & correcting it, but I don’t think I’ll meet the deadline cuz the IRS takes forever. Am I fucked? What’s the worst thing that can happen? Can I fix it later somehow?

People lie on their fafsa all the time sometimes by accident and sometimes on purpose. If you didn’t net gain anything from it then it probably doesn’t matter

Memory is a bit fuzzy but at the most I netted less than 1k. nothing tremendously huge. There’s also a tool that links your actual IRS 219 Tax file straight to the FAFSA website, but I think I’m just gonna put the info manually...

A friend of a friend of a friends mom accidentally failed to mention about 60k of income on her fafsa for this friend of a friend of a friend for the whole student loans stuff and nothing has happened I think ur gonna be okay bro. You should still talk to an expert and ask if there’s a way you can rectify it

Thanks for the reaffirmation. I don’t really know who to talk to since financial or tax advisors will probably charge me or probably not know shit about this kind of scenario since crypto taxes are relatively new. I’ll try to keep looking more into it.

People really sweat because they think the IRS cares that much about your $100 capital gains

You guys need to do LSD

Nobody even looks into your fafsa application they just rubber stamp it.
It's free money.

Did your parents claimed you as a dependant in 2019? If so, your taxes dont even matter that much. If not, just skip over your tax part.

They do look at it. Your income determines how much grant you will get.

They did claim me as a dependent in 2019, but the tricky thing is that i qualify as an Independent Student cuz I was in foster care, so I don’t need to report my parents’ income. I’m forced to report my own since I worked in 2019 & submitted my W-2 form. My W-2 is the only thing I submitted not a 1099 or anything else
