>> No.28673992

If you think about it realistically, GRT doesn't have any real use case. The blockchain is already a public ledger for anybody to see and pull data from. And people have done this extensively already. I'm sure all of you have used etherscan before to view transactions and public addresses. What exactly would The Graph be doing differently? Nothing, now it's just tokenized. Don't even get me started on the fact that it uses a """utility""" token. The token literally isn't even needed, and even if it does get used, the network would not be able to function at a price of more than a few dollars per GRT. I can understand the need for indexers, but buying the token to delegate literally doesn't produce any value for anybody. It's proof of stake except there isn't even a need for it because it runs on ethereum anyway which has it's own consensus mechanisms. Literally just money printing that incentivizes people to pump the developers' bags. I hope you guys realize this sooner rather than later, you've done quite well for yourselves if you bought at anywhere under $1.

Breddy gud fud. But I’ll bite.
>If you think about it realistically, GRT doesn't have any real use case.
It does, which is providing a marketplace for decentralized indexers of blockchains, something that smart contracts and web3 dApps rely on. They have already been successful providing the centralized version of this service, but to really scale to defi/web3 it needs to be decentralized, hence the introduction of the network of permission free indexers who stake GRT to prove they can be trusted with providing timely and accurate indexes.
>The blockchain is already a public ledger for anybody to see and pull data from.
Yup. But indexing it is expensive, doing it for a smart contract or web3 dApp is too expensive. It’s even too expensive for Uniswap, which is using the graph for its indexing to show its statistics.
> And people have done this extensively already. I'm sure all of you have used etherscan before to view transactions and public addresses.
Yup, that’s one web site doing one indexing. Smart contracts would need thousands of sites like etherscan, and a network and protocol for paying them, and slashing collateral if they failed to serve the contracts, etc...guess what, that’s the graph.
