Is there something I'm not getting? Doesn't this mean that in the end most people will get fucked?

Because nobody calls them out for it. There's no way it's backed with anything real.

Yep, like most retards on this board they don't understand that 'USD equivalents' means short term (2-5 year) bonds. Bank account insurance is a meme US treasures are the best hedge against account insurance. Its a very liquid market.

What's the deal with USDT? Is it safe to save money if you're a poor thirdworlder with hyperinflation problems in your own currency?

>> No.28857127

>>28857047
If you think the dollar is more stable than your money yes. People have been fudding tether forever and maybe one day it'll collapse but not any time soon.

We have 20-30% yearly inflation and buying bitcoin is not worth it for 100USD transactions plus I want something "stable".

How about True USD? Shouldn't it be safer to use?

Because when you deposit USD/EUR to an exchange, that exchange sends the USD/EUR to iFinex (owner of Tether), and iFinex prints Tether which they send to the exchange so that you can trade with it.
That's what happens with every single exchange that offers both Tether and fiat deposits.

People who are STILL Tether conspiracy theorists are hands down some of the dumbest people in crypto.

how come tether almost never burns tether then?
It's like a 9999:1 ratio of tether printing to tether burning compare it with USDC.

Actually offshore banks can sort of create offshore USD. They have a deposit of legit USD that they use as a reserve and create USD loans off that reserve.

On binance the volumes of USDT to any crypto trump anything else, and hence the spreads are like 10x lower, when compared to trading with other stablecoin or fiat.
Given that, I see no reason for me to switch to anything else, as I would lose lots more on spreads.
