This argument is so fucking stupid. First off, it's not as if it's permanent. Yes, you cannot convert vBTC back to BTC but it's not as if you're stuck with vBTC. You can just swap it for ETH and then trade ETH for BTC.
Secondly, it's necessary for the trustless focus. The whole point of the trust situation is that having the original BTC sitting on a server open for someone with access to steal is risky. Removing the original BTC gets rid of that risk.
Thirdly, ERC-20 BTC is objectively better. There is literally no reason to downgrade unless you need to do something that specifically requires normal BTC. But as time passes, DEFI BTC becomes more and more accepted and eventually we're going to reach a point where any service that would require BTC also accepts ERC-20 BTC.

the address that holds all the btc is meant to be accessed from time to time, and in a decentralized(ish) setup like ren that means you get to interact with it
and when there's a lock and a way to get a key, eventually, an exploit will be discovered that allows an attacker to get that key and freely access what's inside
in fact, an exploit is already known for ren, it's just a matter of getting enough people interested in the however many thousand btc it holds
