Only like 1 in 1000 boomers are vertebrate enough to acknowledge whatever you did as something worth congratulating. I'm saying this after doing the same. Luckily my parents were very supportive and are now doing their own research and double checking with me weekly on questions they have. Made them some decent profits too by not making them gamble on shitcoins. My friend's parents on the other hand would make him sell all his crypto for fiat and use it to buy a car or some shit.
The goal is to make it big, buy a house and land and have the rest staked with some available for quick liquidation in case you need to spend fiat.

I was talking with my dad about crypto last christmas and told him i've turned $2500 into over $250,000 in the last 4 years (much higher now with LINK going crazy lately).
I wasn't expecting a throne or anything, just maybe a congratulations since the fucking guy hasn't been in my life much since he and my mom split 10 years ago..

Nope. He tells me to pull it out and show it to him in my bank account.
>A quarter million? Yeah right, show it to me in your bank account
>What? What do you mean
>You're telling me you can have $250,000 in your bank account tomorrow
>Well it might take a few days for the transfer but yes i can
>Okay do it
>I don't want to sell yet, i want it to go up more
>*dad literally laughing at me* Son, you're being scammed. You'll never be able to get that money. You should have just bought stocks instead

Wish i was making this shit up. He genuinely believes that i'm some absolute fucking retard who is being led on with promises of high returns and that I don't actually have any real money that I can convert into USD.

I just shut up about crypto for the night and haven't talked to him since.

OP, as much as I understand about the "never any praise" problem, take comfort in the fact that at least you're on speaking terms with your parents.

Mine treated me like shit my entire life. My father's behavior has gotten increasingly erratic, and after he nearly got me thrown out of graduate school because of him being a shithead, I quit talking to him. My mother has threatened to cut me out of her will because I refuse to move in with her, sleep on her couch, put up with her incessant belittling, and do her grocery shopping during all these stupid lockdowns for all eternity until she drops dead.

At least you still have a family who gives a shit about you.

Also,

>slinging shitcoins
Just put it all in BTC/ETH and hodl. There's no point in putting that much money at risk of losing it all at your age on chink scamcoins and pajeet shillcoins. By some time next year you'll have a quarter million dollars, which is enough to buy your own house for cash in a lot of the country if you want to, and if not, it's enough to give you one hell of a good stake for the rest of your life.

i have always been utterly disturbed and dumbfounded by the american culture of taxing their very own blood. jesus, imagine turning 18 years old and your own parents, your own mother and father kick you out of your family house, the place you grew up, the only true shelter you have in your life.

imagine thinking "jeez, im just a dumb 18 year old in a world strangled by multinational conglomerates, but its ok - my mum and dad are here to help", and then they kick you out, or start demanding money from you. you never even had a change to start.

i honestly think this is the most disgusting "contribution" of modern american culture - that of kids having to "make their own way in life", by force. one is left to wonder if maybe the kids were better off growing up orphans.

If any of these answer YES, you have bad parents or parents with low IQ and you should mentally cut ties with them , (Still spend time with them, I know you love them, but you have to mentally check out and disregard what they say, especially their advice) as once you do make it, they will expect you to care for them and give them money back even though they shit on the way you made it along the way. All of this boomer resentment towardss investing solely comes from the fact that they feel stupid for not learning anything about finance or saving a single cent until they were 35 because they were retarded pot smoking heroin addict baby boomers doing absolutely fucking nothing with their lives at the same age we are learning about finance, stocks, crypto, and starting our plight to success. Good parents or parents with a high IQ will accept this, and be glad you are doing what they didnt with their lives. Bad parents or parents with a low IQ tend to literally have the capacity to be envious over the lives of their children (I actually don't understand how this is pathologically possible but it is) and being low IQ parents, their kid probably learned from someone else, not from them, so it just turns into a bad relationship between parents and child.

Always remember, no one can "teach you to not make the same mistakes they did" they never had success so they don't know whether it was the mistake or not, they just failed, never listen to unsuccessful people or wage cucks. I literally only take money advice from people I know that have found ways to make their own money, that actually know about finance, that manage money. Just because someone gets paid alot of money does not mean they know alot about money.

I can relate to this too, OP. I think the only time I've ever been congratulated on anything by anyone has been once or twice at work, and although it felt nice at the time in retrospect it was some kind of horrible conditioning for making me a good wagie.
This is just what life is like as a man, though. You have to get used to never hearing any appreciation for anything you do. It seems that all the women I've known have had super supportive parents who dish praise upon on them all the time (in addition to all the positive attention they get from other sources), whereas all my male friends seem to have the same experience as I do, from their parents and others. We're expected to just get on with it. I don't think it's because our parents don't love us or whatever, just that they assume we'll manage fine and don't need any emotional support.

It also helps that he knows a fair amount about computers so for him to understand the concept of bitcoin was very simple for him to understand.

Now fast forward to today hes holding alot of fucking BTC and ETH. he also has alot of boomer rocks hiding around. hes in his 70's retired, made a fuckload of money, He also laughs at all his other boomer friends now that thought he was retarded, and only stick to stonks

Your parents are dickheads OP. Very toxic, snd dumb. But parents aren't supposed to be your friends, and they don't understand anything but gold and stocks (if even that).

Not even a red pill. Just a fact of life that you come to realize the older you get. And its not exclusive to money, its a fact with every form of success, even happiness. I always wondered as a kid why finance was considered a "taboo" subject, wouldn't you make more money if you and your friends discussed and shared ways to make more money? I came to realize it's because of this.
I do believe there are people that don't become envious like this, and its important to surround yourself with individuals who want to see you succeed. But everyone will always have an insecurity about SOMETHING or another.
It seems like 90% of boomers are insecure about how they made their money and about the way they spent their time in life

im 22, my grandfather who i love dearly was not too interested in the fact that i turned 700 into 7k last month thanks to meme stock hype, he instead asked why i couldnt be like the redditor who made 80k

i dont know what i want to do or what im supposed to do in life, everything just feels pointless and dull, or at the very least is omething i cant do or something that i missed out on.
i think i am a degenerate gambler. the hope that i will see the green on robinhood and see 4 digit numbers from one trade keeps me going, but i know it is not sustainable and i am stupid since i know jack shit about stocs or crypto.
its easy for people to say something is not for me when no one took the time to properly educate me on what im doing in the first place or how to improve.

im buying a gun so i can kill myself by 30, abd leave money for my family, some friends, girlfriend, and charity

Noticed this exactly and it goes for everything.
They're not waiting for some yet unrevealed fact or piece of evidence to be presented and convince them of a position—what they're waiting for is permission. They're just waiting for the consensus to be in so they can talk about it without it causing them psychological discomfort.

Risk-averse and unwilling to be proven wrong about anything, they take the coward's strategy and only repeat the obvious or the normal consensus. At the end of the day they might have been "right" more often but have little to show for it because little risk implies little reward.

OP, I was childhood fatass. I lost a lot of weight and starting lifting at the age of 18, and when I would come home looking in shape at the age of like 20/21 my dad was seething. He could never be happy for me, never gave me encouragement. Every time I would improve my life he would resent it and try to bring me down. Some people are like this; extremely insecure and only concerned with bringing people down to make themselves feel better. Don't take what they say to heart, it doesn't reflect on you as a person. I grew up extremely insecure and always doubted myself because of this, and it's taken a long long time for me to get over the mental damage it has done. Boomers lived in a different time. My dad, at 19 as a high-school dropout, was already living on his own having the time of his life. He owned cars and motorcycles.

No success that you get in your 20's can ever compete with that and, in his mind, he thinks you're lazy for not getting a job making money like he did. Boomers don't understand inflation either, so they'll think you're making more than they did when you have a starting job making $15/hr when they earned $10 (adjusting for inflation, which was comparable to well over $20 an hour)

Dude, are you going to just be a fucking ignorant boomer tiered low iq retard the rest of your life? You will never become rich that way. Your argument is fucking retarded. A dollar is just some fucking cotton and linen, it doesnt have any real intrinsic value nor does its value "really exist" all currency is fucking like that. So, all currency is complete bullsshit with no intrinsic value, not just crypto, how do we solve that? Well, we create a decentralized currency that cant be directly controlled or manipulated with a finite supply. If you could do that and have some sort of retarded physical representation of that currency (like a dollar) you would have to have it be manufactured from one facility, and distributed from that facility. (Centralized control of currency) If you don't have the mental capacity to understand the simple concept of currency than you really are too low IQ to be on this board dude. Literally all "real, physical" currency is, is a centralized crypto, but for every crypto, there is a stupid physical piece of nothing symbol that represents it. It is all just numbers, whether or not there is a computer computing those numbers. You are actually a fucking stupid person to rationalize this the way you do. It is literally the same exact thing. PLEASE go learn about currency and finance before coming back here.

I’m an aerospace engineer by day and own an engineering firm on the side. I make around $200k/yr. My wife is sexy as fuck.. 13 years younger than me, tiny, big natural tits but still skinny, hispanic, tight little butt... I have a kid from a Korean woman and have full custody. He’s four grades ahead in math and two in reading.... I live in a really nice and relatively big house on the beach in Florida, 1,000 mi from where I grew up....

My parents aren’t proud of me and my accomplishments. They wanted me to be a government contractor. Only working for the government ensures your future according to them. I own a business with government contracts but that isn’t enough.... they wanted me to be a contract specialist FOR the government. They wanted me to marry a girl with a great personality and ignore the way she looked. They wanted me to wait until marriage to pump out kids. They wanted me to live near Washington, DC like them where property values are ridiculous.

Fuck ‘em, OP. Some people just want their kids to be successful and some want validation for their own life choices. There are far too many ways to make it for one to hang up on one specific method. I have accepted the lack of approval from my parents. Life goes on. You need to also.

Unironically this OP. That being said, it's easier said than done. I've gotten better at it as I've gotten older.
Sucks that your parents are douches. For the most part my parents are great, but sometimes it seems like they don't want me to be more succesful than them. Like it's some sort of competition... And they always FUD all my life choices/ ideas that goes against the mainstream logic. And that's despite the fact that I've been very succesful financially because of my career/ life choices.
My dad would always get annoyed/ jealous when I talked about how much money I had made. Nowadays I never mention any numbers. If he asks me how my portfolio is doing I just tell him pretty good and change the subject. During Christmas he asked me if I still own any crypto and I just told him I have a tiny bit left ($200k).

>why are boomers like this?
I don't think you understand just how uniquely solipsistic boomers are as a specific generation. Gen X, millenials and zoomers are all fucked up in different ways but boomers are just uniquely ignorant and arrogant of the world they created.
To begin with understanding the eternal boomer, you must first comprehend that they lived through the post WWW economic boom which was the greatest economic boom to ever happen in the history of the world. Boomers managed to make it by scratching their asses when they showed to literally any job. This gave them an inflated ego that hasn't been matched by anybody else. Boomers think they shit gold just because they went through the motions during good times and any sort of criticism in their eyes stomps on their ego.
Imagine if during your entire life you were able to do anything you wanted with minimal effort and everything went your way pretty much no matter what. You will basically go above narcissistic and become a solipsist.

There is concern and than there is envy. Hard to be concerned about your child when they just made a years salary completely independently. That boils it down to envy. "I saw some redditor make 1 million off of bitcoin, wheres your million? would be a hell of alot better than "you're going to lose it all..... no way that's possible you cant just print money" one is obviously motivation and one is obviously envy and discouragement.

it's kind of when Fillipos sacrificed his privilege to raise his son, Alexander, so that Alexander could instead be mentored by Aristoteles because he knew that was the only way for Macedonia to achieve true greatness.

Yeah but he sounds based and it also sounds like there is a message behind what he says. I absolutely 100% guarantee you he is incredibly proud of you but his way of raising you to always do better is to not show that pride. He's smart and he's trying to motivate you to do better, he obviously is still proud of your accomplishments whether or not he is open about it. His critiques are that you can do better, not that what you are doing is complete bullshit and renders you a failure. He is clearly just trying to improve you, where as a poor father projecting their insecurities wants to do nothing but damage your ego for being bigger than them.

anon don't beat yourself up. this hits home for me. my dad was the same. i could never please him and it really did a number on me that took years to undo. your dad is likely a narcissist. might help to see a therapist that you connect with. they can help you sort this out for sure.

why are you still at home at 22? move out dude. go do your thing. unfree yourself from these shackles. be proud of yourself if no one else will be. advocate for yourself. love yourself. congrats bro. making $55k is no easy task. prove people wrong without saying a thing and be rich as fuck.

Nah, he's old as fuck and very comfy for quite some time. He just didn't want a pussy son. He's always been fair and always tried to make me weigh all my options before making a decision. He's a tough son of a bitch and so am I by default. Bitches love that shit. Presentable but rough around the edges.

My point is: he berates you for your long term growth. Poor fathers berate their kids out of insecurity, envy, and to feel better about themselves that night.
