Tons of content gets made and used digitally without creators getting credit so it makes sense that they'd want something like this.

I wouldn't buy a jpeg nft to look at on PC, but if we invent sci-fi-esque ultra realistic hologram displays then I could buy some wild 3d render hologram sculpture and we might have something. Could have some sort of NFT network that uses a proof of reserve oracle to confirm ownership of the NFT. Artist could release a limited number of tokens on the network where the PoR oracle is required to execute a smart contract that allows for the file to be unencrypted/readable. If someone could whip up a new file type that requires consensus from the chain to display then we might have a situation where an artist can make something in a limited run without mass reproduceability.

Could have some Michaelangelo tier sculpture work if artists are no longer bound by realities constraints in creation and can be properly compensated for thier work by people who don't fear that the works value will be damaged by reproduction. People might jug the jpeg on the artists website, or take a picture of the thing in a gallery setting, but that wouldn't be the work at all.

Once unencrypted maybe someone could copy the file somehow, but what would the incentive be to pay gallery price for a unique work only to destroy the price though bootlegging and distribution?

Instagram 100% is going to introduce nfts, possibly YouTube too. You’ll be able to see a preview of a video, photo but if you want the full thing, you need to pay. This will either completely revolutionize internet or go away as a fad. I think the former.

Yes I would not be surprised if Instagram took some sort of gallery positions with this stuff.

I think a premium content approach like you are speaking of is likely and will do wonders for OF girls if it allows mass viewing without leaks. But I think the big thing with NFTs is going to be limited access and exclusivity.

Seems like the pay for view model would have the tokens working as keys to access the content where as I feel NFTs will focus more on having the token be the content itself.

For example, some people playing animal crossing won't trade for an item if they believe it was hacked instead of obtained normally even though there's no functional difference.

Now extrapolate this to the VR future where you can tell if a digital item is legit because it's signed by the creator.

I made an NFT and this is screaming all kinds of scam to me.

Rarible is one of the main NFT marketplaces, so I signed up there. Total fees to create an NFT with mutliple tokens/issues was about $60 in USD in ETH. It worked. Gave out a free token, found out that costs money also - about $6 for each transfer.

The next day everything appeared normal, but since I added a link to my Rarible marketplace on my site I accidentally found out that when I visit it when I'm not logged in, it says "this art or artist is blocked from public view."

Someone from Rarible had reviewed my art NFT that I had paid $60 for, and, finding it not to their liking, shadowbanned it along with my account from the marketplace. Of course an NFT that is blocked by its own issuer is completely useless.

Tldr Rarible is a huge scam.

not much, right?
the value came from the scarcity, which NFT art currently doesn't have. What's "scarce" are the unique tokens, which are valueless until associated with a unique asset that has real value.

Ok look I've been drinking southern comfort all night but hear me out.
The way we think of NFTs as being fugazi dogshit is exactly the way people thought about cryptocurrencies when they were new. And how people thought about utility tokens like eth when they were new. There people on this very board (or /g/) shilling btc but saying eth was useless and a scam back in the day.
Is it POSSIBLE that you're just a majority or laggard adopter and can't see the digitalization of the economy in its full scope? That all IP may soon be represented by a digitally signed token.
It actually makes a ton of sense to do this. Especially with how much valuable is created and distributed electronically. Think of how copyrights work and how much of a pain in the ass that is.
Now get this. You have a software and it's proprietary. You want to license it. Of course there are many ways to do this. But you can also have an NFT available for purchase that corresponds with your software. If you don't have that NFT you don't own the license and can't use it (legally anyways).

so it's not about "ownership" of art (because you don't own the art) but rather the social status derived from owning a specific token on a blockchain?
and you think this is a convincing argument?

Also I just took a shit and realized if you could make infinite exact copies of Rolexes for free then no one would buy Rolexes, in fact the entire watch industry would probably collapse

>> No.30093460

Imagine this right.
Photoshop. It's not free
You buy an NFT and it gives you access for a year or something. It allows you to authenticate your license of the software.
After the year you're blocked out and the access is basically encrypted with SHA256 or whatever we use now. Want back in? You need a fresh siggie from a new NFT token (license). Am I crazy?

Ok, but the "art" tokens people are currently purchasing at infalted prices don't do any of that and never will
There's nothing to indiciate that you even own the IP of an artwork if you buy the associated NFT on Rarible or wherever
It's currently just a collective fantasy about the ability to own a JPEG
