Why should I need to disclose whether or not I bought crypto? Isn't it my money, can't I buy what I want with it? If I buy a game, a car, a computer, etc. I don't need to tell anyone, why is this different?

Because you are on some form of welfare.

What? No welfare here, unless you mean that there exists some kind of welfare program in the country (although I don't benefit from it)

They don’t care what you buy, only what you sell.

Including your cars, computers and games.

So why is it required to click yes if you bought crypto even if you didn't sell?

>If I buy a game, a car, a computer, etc. I don't need to tell anyone, why is this different?
The difference is there are very few people who are buying games, cars and computers and then reselling them for a profit and those who are doing it are generally running a business and paying taxes on it. The average citizen reselling any of these objects is taking a loss on it or not profiting enough for the IRS to bother. There is however a rather large amount of people profiting rather large sums of money buying cryptocurrency and then not reporting it to the IRS and paying taxes. Thats the difference.

Sure, but that should only come into play if you actually sold.

To establish a precedent so if in the future you attempt to claim cryptocurrency on your tax return that you were willfully not complying with tax laws so they can fuck you hard and without lube.
