Bitcoin and crypto broadly won't ever "stop society from functioning". What it will do is take the power from the people who rule over us and put it into more democratized hands. It will sort of "redistribute wealth" in a sense, but it will do it in a more free market, libertarian way, rather than a communist / socialist way.
Either way, I don't wanna make it sound partisan. It's something everyone should be happy about regardless of your political party. Sort of a "new paradigm" and it will be genuinely good.
It's exactly what our society needs.
But the piece of shit boomers who rule over us and hold tight grips on the monetary supply, banking and fortune 500 businesses are obviously going to be scared of it. And that's why regulation is the only real thing that can threaten crypto.

The plus side is that it's something that's REALLY hard for the government to regulate by it's decentralized nature.

Not even gonna read but I already know it’s going to say something or another about the ecological damage crypto mining causes.
How is it any different or worse than electric heating? Running a 850W PC with a top of the line GPU is basically like running a heater, but not even because you don’t want your GPU to heat above 75C...
I can kind of understand that mining farms draw way more fucking power than consumer PCs, but the farms in China are shutting down because they’re just not profitable scaled up like that. The problem is taking care of itself and the whole system remains decentralized. Fuck.
