I feel like this is the only legit NFT project besides Curio.

Yes, I have 1 star, and a couple planets I got for free by shamelessly begging tlon lol. I just sold my other star, because I wanted to bulk up my PMs and I think you'll only need 1 star to make it if this blows up

>> No.30379268

Yeah, recently booted up urbit with a comet, was fairly impressed, wanted to buy a planet but couldn’t force myself to pay the 100$ gas fee.
I wouldn’t say that it’s the only legit NFT project because all NFTs are is store of value + something that looks cool/ does something cool, in many ways it is kinda like buying arwork from a gallery in hopes it’ll be worth more when you get bored of looking at it. In fact I was tempted to buy the Zola Jesus NFT when it came out but again... the gas fees changed my mind.

Unless it has a cool name like "~talmud-windex", you shouldn't buy a planet as an investment, you should only buy it if you're ready to use it. There are 4 billion planets, they won't become scarce for a long time.

If you want to invest, you need a star, that is where the money will be made. A star costs like 3 ETH and there will only ever be 65,000 which why you don't hear it shilled on /biz/ very much.

Could you walk through the process of running a star? If I am not mistaken there's a lot of maintenance involved right?

>> No.30379789

>>30379568
I'm not really sure. I don't think its particularly hard i think you just need to make sure it's online so your planets don't leave for a more stable star.

I bought my star as an investment vehicle and haven't brought it online or spawned any planets from it.

Urbit threads are hilarious because it's always like 1-3 people talking about it amongst themselves.

Really goes to show how 95% of this board are fucking poorfags. If you are too poor to buy then you should look into potentially coding urbit projects. You could get rewards from tlon (stars or galaxy) or make a profit being a first mover selling services.

My take:

Pros:
-Upside is humongous, has the potential to get to BTC-level market cap (which would make each star worth 6-7 figs)
-fixes a lot of problems with the internet (centralization of web 2.0 services). There is huge demand for uncensored social media, more flexibility from SaaS providers, privacy from government and corporate snooping
-if you are involved in urbit early you will have a major advantage in identifying and offering services to sell on urbit (BTC wallets coming in april)
-storefront on urbit should speed up development as individuals will be able to directly profit from urbit products they create
-

Cons:
-development has been slow. BTC wallets were promised in 2020 and now are finally releasing in April 2021.
-as with btc, montero, etc. It is at risk of being shut down by the government. It's an encrypted P2P network, you can imagine why the government wouldn't like this proliferating.
-advanced quantum computing would destroy this project completely (along with other crypto)
original guy (Yarvin) who wrote nock has made mildly racist comments online, while he's not involved with the project anymore it will still be viewed with suspicion by onions faggots
-gotta pay gas to buy a star or planet

you already posted that before. Of course there's a need, look at how much people hate social media services like facebook and twitter. Why? The spying, the bans, the inflexibility. This will rework slack, FB, twitter, email, 4chan, all of it, not to mention stuff that can really only be done on a service like urbit.

FUD. Government allows btc, monero, andrew anglin, ocho imageboards, gab, etc.

American government will sooner try to take over urbit (or subnetworks of urbit) than ban it. Banning new technologies is not good policy. And if we're at the point where the government is considering banning it, you've already gotten rich many times over.

>> No.30387855

>>30387486
On Power doesn't cover the religious aspect of enlightenment ideals, or eg the alliance of brahmins and niggers against middle class. It's a good book nonetheless, as someone said earlier UR is a good starter as it's very broad in scope and has lots of references. The proposed solution may be cringe, but the analysis isn't bad. Maybe a bit too edgy.
