How do you calculate real profits in altcoins since it's pegged in btc. If bitcoin goes up 20% relative to your altcoin do you lose 20% value? how dafuq does this work. Can't find anyone talking about this.

Good question. I guess one would need to look up the historical data on the bitcoin price during the day that the altcoin was bought or sold to get a more accurate figure (If you are looking to itemize your losses and gains).

There are sites where you can look up historical bitcoin prices.

If BTC goes up, your altcoins typically rise with it. It depends on the exact circumstance though.
But it's usually best to stay in alts.

>have 0.1 btc in altcoin
>btc rises by 20%
>sell alt coin at 0.11 btc

what the fuck is there to understand? you made a profit of 0.01 btc

Do you think about how much you gained or lost against USD when you got your paycheck from your Britbong job?

ok so btc going up in value increases profit so long as it goes up after you made your altcoin purchase. and if bitcoin crashes your alts crash as well?

Wow, what a retarded explanation.

i log my USD prices at the time i buy. Like i bought 24.83 MCO @ ~$8.07 ea. ($200) (8/16)
Btc price is irrelevant while you're holding alt until you sell.
24.83 MCO currently worth ~$543 @ $21.87 ea.

yeah i see on bittrex the estimated btc value. I just don't know if it's because my coin went up or because btc went up. ya know?

>> No.3257242

>>3257205
No, Don't listen to him. If that were true every coin would have identical charts. If btc crashed many would be unaffected by it. Others would even rise, Like LTC did when BTC started falling.

You usually lose btc in alts when btc moons because of panic selling to get back into btc. It evens back out when btc calms down though.

Dont chase the money and the hype. That's how you lose.

>> No.3257302

alt prices are directly related to btc price, as the btc/altcoin is what matters.
So if bitcoin rises 10 percent your alts will do aswell if the btc/altcoin rate stays the same.
Most of the time alts tank when bitcoin rises, so the drop in btc/altcoin relation cancels out the higher btc value.
