Greetings Beloveds in Christ,
I am a dying widow here in Uganda who discovered a 100 Billion Ton deposit of pure Gold while gardening yesterday. Of course being a poor Ugandan, I cannot afford to the equipment to extract the treasure (worth $100,000,000 Dollars USD) and need your help. Send via Western Union Wire Transfer $1000 USD Dollars so I can rent an excavator and I will send you the profits from the Gold my blessed brother in Christ. I also work at the Central Bank of Uganda and woth this Gold we can implement a Gold Standard to lift millions of Ugandans out of poverty in the name of Christ! Please hurry and make haste to cease this once in a lifetime opportunity to make a fortune while helping a dying widow like me out.
Blessings be upon you all,
Reveredn Dr. Ousmane Ngubu III Prince of Uganda

Anon, I'm saying that you spamming /setf/ threads has pissed off the jannies there. When it's nothing but the same arguments over and over it becomes spam.

/pmg/ threads aren't spam because there are a wide variety of users talking about various things regarding precious metals. Many of us have been updating our stacks and sharing the progress so far. This is also a catalyst for talking about history and nuances of precious metals. I've come to know way more about gold and silver in these past 4 months than I have in my entire life. What have you done in the past for months.

/setf/
/setf/
/setf/
/setf/

If you want to spread your message and have discussion on /pol/, shake it up every now and then, don't use the tired /setf/ spam, combine it as a sub discussion to the day to day financial situation in the U.S. That way you've actually got something meaningful for everyone to discuss. What you've been doing there has made you look like a raving autist.

It would be constructive if setf had a chance to discuss things before being shoa'd, it doesn't matter. It's the feds that run this place anyway. REMINDER: We are on the verge of a category 5 /happening/ in Taiwan. Within 60 days there will be an incident. The US has defensive treaties with Taiwan, unlike Ukraine. Assuming Biden does not send his nation to war, the reactionary financial isolation could force China to do what Russia couldn't and call the Dollar's bluff.

Best Case - Nothing Happens. We continue the inflation journey and the food shortages continue.

Medium Risk Profile - Currency Collapse and extreme inflation as entire industries dry up due to outsourcing. Many goods will dry up (and this is on top of regularly scheduled food shortages)

High Risk Profile - World War 3 and the dollar is backed by atoms

Prepare Accordingly.

Assuming the ore is of the highest possible quality and it could theoretically all be mined and processed instantaneously, you will get approximately 1 ounce per 1 ton of rock ore to bring to market. Therefore...

320,000 tons of ore = 320,000oz of gold enter the market immediately

Current gold reserves of the world = 244,000 tons of pure gold

244,000 tons of gold to ounces = 8,606,847,000 oz

320,000 out of 8,606,847,000 = .00372% of the world's reserve gold

you can never mine all the gold or silver at once, mines take years to develop, let alone actually start production. The lag time from discovery to mine is often around 10 years. Super sized mines are getting harder and harder to find too, KSM belonging to Seabridge Gold took almost 40 years to go from discovery to a soon to be producing mine, and that is a super sized project.

that is an extremely difficult question to answer! What is the ore? is it gold quartz? carlin style? VMS? placer gold? What kind of local infrastructure is there? what kind of work force do you have access to? Just having super high grade gold ore doesnt mean shit if its at the top of a mountain with no way to get at it, or in Ugandas case stuck in the middle of nowhere with no real government control or utilities. The costs associated with getting the gold out have to make sense, and in Uganda's case, it doesnt. Here are a bunch of links showing the local government there trying to get several major copper mines back into production, and failing to find interested parties due to corruption and local unrest.
https://www.mining.com/web/uganda-seeks-investors-to-revive-copper-mine/
https://www.mining.com/uganda-to-invite-companies-to-redevelop-former-copper-mine/

Just because you have gold in the ground doesnt mean its worth going after.
I cant give you a solid answer for those numbers without knowing what the ore is like, but even so, it would take decades for Uganda to get things to the point that mining would be economically viable. Thats why their putting out feelers like this, they want companies to come in and do the work for them so they can than go in and take over later.

He's a retard that thought he bought a real Adolf Hitler watercolor off some ebay knock off site.
His justification for the absurdly low price he paid was a link to another auction of a 'certificate of authenticity included' Hitler watercolor for three thousand, which was sold out of pic related.
I would not trust him to mint a coin, he would probably buy a bunch of aluminum thinking he was getting a great deal on silver.

It's one of the great problems of holding PMs - selling them. Dealers have to charge a premium because they're a business and have to make money. They *can* do it because they have reputations and guarantees backing them up. End-users (like you and me) are a crap shoot. There are ways to mitigate that:
- Sell to a dealer. They have the expertise and equipment to assay what you offer and in a relatively safe environment. Caveat: they won't buy at the highest price you might fetch if you work at it.
- Sell on an auction site: some (such as ebay) offer guarantees to the buyers and hold sellers accountable. Caveat: the auction sites aren't free, and will take a portion of your sale. Plus, you likely have shipping. Bonus: if it's an unusual or popular coin/design. you might get an enthusiastic pair of bidders to jack up the price for what they consider a must-have.
- Sell to a pawn shop. Tell them your price, they will always respond with something rudely low, and you come back with your real offer. If they decline, thank them for their time and walk out. Don't haggle.
- Sell it however - Craig's list or what. Caveat: you don' t know what low-life will show up with a gun.

What does all this mean? It means when you buy, expect to be holding onto it for a long time before the spot prices rises enough for you to so much as break even. PMs are not an investment to make money. They are a store of wealth, a hedge against particular forms of financial disaster, a lifeline, a last resort, and mostly, a way to transfer your wealth to an heir while avoiding taxes.

I seem to remember somebody saying something about Craiglist where people were listing some PM way above spot because buyers who were money laundering would want to buy it.

Another scenario I can think of is sell the gold coin for cryptos like XMR, then change it to fiat currency. I'm guessing some cryptos holders would want to exchange their cryptos for PM so it wouldn't be KYC. They'll probably pay more than gold spot for that; just don't get scammed.

LCS mostly plus a little here and there from smaller online dealers.
Still regardless of where you buy, it's just a fact of life that you probably aren't going to get whatever premium back on your Gold until spot has gone up enough to make up for it. This isn't anything unique to PMs either; Mutual funds will charge you fees for taking out money, Crypto has all sorts of transaction fees, ETFs and stocks have various brokerage fees, CDs have early withdrawal penalties, etc.

You're just selling your gold coin, you're not doing anything illegal. If the cryptos buyer is not reporting their gains on their cryptos, that's on them, not you. I'm anxiously awaiting one. I wonder if I'll be able to keep up if the series continues. This is kind of breaking my budget.
My reality is, the plastic is a bit scratched up, making the view ugly.

super pure gold from experience can even be a hassle just handling with bare hands, finger nails can scratch it.

Thing is, if I'd buy a 99999 ounce of gold, first thing I'd do is rip it out of that plastic and rub it all over me!
And then probably put some slow music on, to set the mood for later.

I don't get it, I've got a car & several laptops along with plenty of other expensive stuff. What's so dangerous about a single gold coin? As long as I don't act like an idiot and tell the whole neighborhood I have one, it'll be fine.

it has happened. After the spanish discovered tons of gold in the new world and brought it to Europe, they devalued gold drastically. However it's impossible for something like this to happen again because we likely found most of the available gold on earth

Mansa Musa's golden acts of charity during his pilgrimage through Egypt to Mecca caused 20 years of inflation, but there wasn't a global economy yet. The mining of potosi caused 100 years of european inflation, bankrupting the spanish crown 6 times. This was merely at an estimated 1% inflation.
