Anyone keeping a running tally here of how much damage Chainlink has caused? I know just in recent memory we had 8 figures during the Terra collapse from various lending protocols. And then another 8 figures in bad debt on Harmony for Aave and Tranquil due to the oracles not offering proper tracking of the 1assets themselves.
Now apparently we have a case of the oracles failing again, this time possibly in a forex -> stablecoin context.

>> No.50137299

imagine this failing as n a wider basis after being implemented iwith banks etc.

To be fair, chainlink oracles are centralized and known to fail. But they are cheaper to use than other decentralized oracles. They took that risk going in.

I think they're on both Eth and Polygon but all the volume I saw from the guy abusing it was on Eth. Was like over 100m of volume or something.
I actually only noticed because out of nowhere this popped up as the #2 dex on Coingecko for volume ahead of Curve and I thought that was strange.

Forex stableswap seems to be a decent idea. Makes a lot more sense that many other crypto ideas I've seen.
Seems the only issue here is Chainlink being the Achilles heel if it really needs to rely on it to function. I don't really know enough about the app to understand why normal arbitrage isn't sufficient to keep everything in line. Maybe because it's the only game in town right now?

>> No.50139123

They just posted an update in dc saying that it might have something to do with the predictability of forex pricing off hours. Didn't mention Chainlink in the announcement but still not really sure.
OP possibly btfo etc

Outlier nodes should have been disregarded but it seems sources weren't decentralized enough.
Most chainlink (minor) fuck ups have been forex related, it's an inherently wonky market and trying to replicate it on blockchains will always leads to fuck ups

how? It's the largest market in the world, I would rather say that it is the absolute benchmark in terms of liquidity. Just because chainlink oracles can't "predict" where it will open on asian monday pre-markets? Seems like an oracle implementation issue to begin with
