If you want to make over $60,000 and work a regular schedule with benefits, then ME, CS, EE, MD, Nursing (- regularly sched), CPA will still get you there. If top of class, real University, and willing to apply to 200 jobs and keep up with industry.

Not great, but better than on-call at AutoZone.

Many people struggle to make $60,000 without overtime or hazard pay. College "guarantees" it with the right major. You will top 60k as a trucker, electrician, plumber, HVAC tech, good drafter, etc. But you need to understand what those fields entail.

It's worth it if you choose a field with a decent income.
Please remember that for most of human history, college education was reserved for the wealthy (it takes money to cover housing/food/clothing/etc while not having to work for years). It is not a right, and for the past 50 years has trended towards affordability specifically BECAUSE the elite don't want to cede power/control to the lower classes. Keeping them in low-paying wageslave jobs maintains the current hierarchy of power.

Long story short it depends on (1) what your degree is in and (2) most importantly what you want to do with the rest of your life. Entrepreneurship isn't for everyone and I know most of you just want to be paid to do fuck all and entrepreneurship isn't that so don't think you can just drop out and become the next Steve Jobs or whatever the fuck. I was a STEM major and by all accounts was going to have great job security and a make a comfortable living but I was fucking miserable as fuck so I dropped out. Luckily for me though I've always been a self starter and just fucking do things without asking others for permission or validation so I learned how to code the summer after high school and honed my skills throughout undergrad and built a couple of mobile apps regardless of the fact that my my major was unrelated to computer science or software engineering. This experience and background landed me a job at a mobile dev studio and then after a couple of years I left to work a front end/UX/UI job and then later another job at a perfomance marketing and analytics company that got bought out by Shopify. I started a side hustle that I then turned into a side business and then eventually went into full time and now have another business on top of that. Everything was done without a college degree. This was 10 years in the fucking making and took a lot of grueling work. Your best bet is to get some bullshit business degree and try to become a product manager or project manager or even a management consulting job like those corporate influencer chicks on TikTok. Life is hard and making a living is hard, but only at first. Suck it the fuck up and figure it out but remember the first two points I made. Also, don't be afraid to experiment and just go off into the deep end. A college degree is probably the best bet for the majority of people, still.

College became expensive because the state started subsidizing it. When every retard is allowed to sign for a $150k loan for no reason suddenly the costs skyrocket. College used to be exclusive and only for the truly outstanding.

Some of the largest corporations in the world have courses and training programs for positions within that don't require you to have a college degree. They're affordable and sometimes even free but they're for very specific positions which requires upfront commitment on your part. They're all over Coursera, EdX and Skillshare. Even Google will train you to become a digital marketer or web dev and can help place you in a job that starts at $60k. Worth taking a look.

It's true. Most people would have been peasant farmers or laborers even just 50 years ago like you said. These are incredibly modern problems that require new never been thought of solutions. I fully agree that college should remain exclusive and elite as it once was. You can receive technical and career training in another way. College doesn't even train you in any capacity to do anything in industry which is bizarre to think about given that every college and university these days is just a diploma mill.

Honestly, not possible. You'd basically need to cut every public university's budget in half, with massive layoffs and austerity measures, while also increasing taxes by double-digit percentages. It'd basically turn academia into a job training center instead of a generalized institution of higher learning. Liberal arts would be reserved for private institutions.

>> No.51641825

>>51641730
Yes because they're the employers themselves. Google is trying to phase out degree requirements for certain jobs but they also want to be in charge of the training. Once you get an "in" into any professional setting and develop on the job skills your degree begins to matter less and less. Ultimately thought it's all dependent on the industry and how young the people running those companies are. Technology and creative fields are great in that they think progressively about these sorts of things no matter how fucked up everything else they do is.

The biggest advantage of going to college is the gateway to increased opportunity. We aren’t just talking about more work opportunities after graduation, but also the endless possibilities of making new connections that may become of value to you for life, the benefits of gaining knowledge, the encouragement of discovering new passions, and so much more! Attending college gives you the opportunity to meet new people of different backgrounds with unique interests, increasing your chances of connecting with people in your potential career field. Knowing the right people can take you far in life! You never know who is going to help you land your dream job, or connect you with the right person who will. Some ways you can expand your network in college is by becoming a part of clubs that align with your interests, playing sports, or volunteering for an organization. Joining a sorority or a fraternity is also a surefire way to meet some close friends for many. You could even pick up an internship or part-time job on or off-campus, and meet people that way as well. Learning from someone more established is also a fantastic way to test the waters in a field of interest, and in that sense, get to know yourself better! Students pursuing higher education are presented with the opportunity to read books and listen to lectures of top experts in their fields. As a result, they gain advanced knowledge in areas that interest them most. This stimulation encourages individuals to think critically, question concepts, and explore new ideas, which allow for additional growth and development. Generally, college graduates have an edge in the job market over those who have just come out of high school. In recent years, seniors have also been going back to college to exercise their minds and to learn from new opportunities to help them as they grow older. Finally, most people pursuing a college degree look forward to promising job prospects after graduating.

he good news is that many recruiters in the United States now look for candidates that have experienced higher education. We have shifted from a manufacturing-based economy to a knowledge-based economy, which makes having a college education especially important these days. Regardless of what career field plan to commit to, you will likely benefit from going to college! By experiencing things like being a part of a club, participating in a group study, taking a variety of courses, and continually enhancing your work ethic, you innately get to know yourself as an individual better. More often than not, those entering their twenties without a clue on what they want to do for a living will develop a better sense of their “calling” after taking different classes that were not offered in high school. Some examples of such courses may include psychology, communications, sociology, business, and computer science, to name a few. Many higher education students are also living away from home for the first time, and that independence and freedom allows them to try things they didn’t feel totally comfortable doing in their high school years. New discoveries could lead to new passions and potential career paths after college! With the global economy becoming increasingly competitive, going to college is a smart way to give yourself the best chance at landing a stable, well-paying job. Gain a wealth of knowledge and experience that you would never receive if you decided to skip higher education. You’ll be surprised at how much personal development you will experience, too!
