There's going to be sales like you've never seen. Nobody is buying anything.
This is normally the busiest time of year for truckers and I haven't done a job since last Wednesday. It's unbelievably quiet in all sectors. Nothing is moving because nobody is buying anything so nobody needs fresh stock. Truck rates at the moment are so low it would cost more to ride an Uber than transport tons of goods. Shit is going to be ugly in January onwards. Truckers use Nov-Dec to carry themselves through Jan-Narch without that money they're fucked.

i doubt this is true. sample size of 1, but my local goymart has taken to putting a dozen or so 53' shipping containers all around the back of the store. i imagine many other retailers (at the store level and probably even the distribution center level) have taken to such behavior. unless it's it's a perishable product, the cost of buying or leasing a shipping container is practically nothing.

so why is inflation high then? are consumers being squeezed and not being cheap shit but sectors that need more supply like cars or homes are not shored up and are the focus of the Fed still?

inflation isn't all that high on other stuff, like toys and luxury goods

Lol so they have to sell a shitload more than expected to continue business, but they won't or can't lower prices. Then people don't buy and they can't continue business.

Wrong. It's pre-order. Those containers were ordered late last year/early this year. They were contractually obligated to pay for it. Leaving a container at the port is insanely expensive. I've been paid some absolutely ridiculous rates to get a container off the port because it's cheaper to have it on my truck parked up for a couple of days than leave it in the port. Ports don't want containers on their property.
The fact it's sat at the back of the lot and not on the shelves tells you all you need to know. The shelves aren't emptying.

your response was an excuse for you to flex your pedestrian knowledge on the costs of holding goods at a shipping port. it's irrelevant to the topic at hand. the topic is about the likelihood of retailers offering discounts on goods being stored onsite at retail sites or distribution centers. it's already been moved out of the port and trucked to the store or the distribution center -- it's not at the port, the port is irrelevant.

Walmart, specifically, hasn't had clearance worth a shit in months. They keep crying about excess inventory but don't want to reduce prices on anything. So, they can keep crying I guess.

Another huge transfer of wealth from the bottom and middle to the top. A huge concentration of freight from owner operators to a few (two or three max) mega carriers. Obviously it's not just freight but it's my industry so can see it very clearly.

I sell a commodity that's used for heating. I also install appliances and can tell you without a doubt my installs are way down then previous years. I saw this coming and trimmed inventory a long time ago. Now instead of stocking inventory I'm stacking cash. Businesses that are invemtory heavy and low on cash are ngmi through what's coming. Other business owners in my area are doing the same thing. The owner of Ace Hardware in my area told me he bought 40% less seasonal goods because of this.

People are strapped for cash and buying non-necessities less often. Those that continue to buy like before either make enough to not care or are going further in debt.

Christ, it's like talking to a child.
You think there's no additional costs having that container sat there with stock in it? You think it doesn't need security? You think they don't have to pay extra insurance premiums because it's outside the building? You think soft furnishings, paper products, electrical products like being sat outside exposed to cold temperatures in the night and condensation in the day?
They're called "shipping containers" not storage containers for a reason.
The point is that stock was bought many months ago with no plans for it to be sat outside, it was planned to be on the shelves when it arrived.
If you had a pedestrian knowledge of shipping you'd know a lot of that stuff in those containers will be spoiled.

>> No.52408767

>>52408596
No they won't. There's too much debt out there that needs servicing. It's better to make a few bucks and keep some turnover going than be sat on stock. Stock doesn't pay the bank or the rent or staff. Selling shit does that.
Most stock (including phones, computers, televisions etc) has a shelf life. Nobody is going to give you top dorra for last weeks computer. It's needs to be sold. Now!

>You think it doesn't need security?
i live near a nigger shithole ghetto. they don't have additional security on it beyond what they normally have.
>You think they don't have to pay extra insurance premiums because it's outside the building?
large retailers don't carry insurance on inventory, as far as i know.
>You think soft furnishings, paper products, electrical products like being sat outside exposed to cold temperatures in the night and condensation in the day?
do you think shipping containers on a boat are climate controlled? they sit at ambient temperature and humidity for the better part of a month without issue. i also prefaced my post with "unless it's a perishable product."

People like us won't profit from it. Best we can do is try and hang on to what we've got.

As someone who lived through the 2008 crash, energy did the same thing then as well right as we were sliding into the recession. Biden is making the situation worse, but sky high energy during this part of the economic cycle is the historic norm. Food inflation actually isn’t that high since the fed has kept the dollar so strong, most countries that are net importers for food are facing high double digit or triple digit inflation for foos
