not many. it's one bank, carrying $100B of high quality liquid assets from USTs to MBS, about $50 in other assets, that was unable to satisfy on demand only part of about $70B in unsecure deposits.
they will now be given cash advances as customers demand, which they (SVB) will owe about 1.6% on, anytime over the next year and with 1-year maturity.
they cannot buy new debt without a capital raise; the customers are cashing out.
SVB doesn't win here. if yesterday customers took out all $70B, then on march 14th 2024 SVB owes about $72B back to the fed.

The Fed didn't print money. The money was supposed to already he there. The money was printed before this occured when the bank handed out loans. If anything it was deflationary in nature do to the forced selling of bonds at a loss.

The real issue is the implications what anon said is correct DEBTMAXX is viable until a smaller bank collapses and there is no bailout for them.

What happened is we have overnight grown socialist banking system in a capitalist system. Essentially banks failing has been made illegal until further notice.

How can you still be bearish after the bailouts? You shouldn't feel allegiance to one market thesis, you should go long now to take advantage of the pivot. Too many bobos treat markets like some sort of team sport, you are supposed to adjust your outlook based on what happens, not hold a permabear position.

>If anything it was deflationary in nature do to the forced selling of bonds at a loss.
SVB isn't forced to sell bonds at a loss by the program. the program converts their current bonds into collateral on cash advances.
and, if they borrowed money to buy bonds ahead of this incident then they are statutorily prohibited from selling those at a loss, which is the exact opposite.
the only bonds they could have sold at a loss to end up here -- and no they still wouldn't have been "forced" to do this, they could have raised equity -- are ones they did not finance. but we know that's basically impossible. they were using substantial leverage. the vast majority of their capital stack was borrowed money.
in fact it's because the law prohibits banks selling their backing assets at a loss that they had to cease operations; if they were allowed to do that then the depositors lose recourse. the bank would be too fucked for any regulator/insurance to repair. they're stopped before it happens materially, so that the law actually has real effect in the depositors' favor.
the money that was printed before was in the leverage itself. it's all that other shit that got them into trouble, the loans they made, that part you have right. where before it made the most return and built the most equity, that now all goes to zero. shareholders lose it all.

it's right on their annual report. about $100B HQLA, $12B cash, $70B in loans. there was $150B in uninsured deposits booked but something like half were pulled in the last few months -- which is what got us here -- so today's estimate is $70 or so.
first of all, you don't have a better estimate. second, you also don't know what you're talking about, because there's multiple different kinds of leverage ratios, and that's not the one that matters for banks. you're just regurgitating some other retard who factors in the 100:1 lending that fractional reserves permits for all banks, which tells you nothing about any particular bank. the ratio people should care about, and do care about, the tier 1 capital ratio, was around 15% -- JP morgan's is higher, but they're a safer bank. by far.
this is because it matters what's actually in the portfolio, not just X/Y but how healthy X and Y are.
SVB sold everything not held down by the law and tried to raise capital and couldn't get more than half a billion. that spooked their depositors because they're skittish faggot leftists who talk a big game about socialism but love the consequences of capitalism. end of story.

I think it's dropping to 8, shooting up to 20, dropping to 10, shooting up to 30, etc before finally soaring to 100 then crashing back down.
You go ahead and be you though.
I'm trading SOXS and SOXL both.

Increased demand for money increases its value. Fed must print more money to ensure price stability, which is one of the main reasons they exist. Uneducated YouTubers of course call it inflation, and they are right according to classic definition (inflation = increased supply). Doesn't mean that Fed is doing something wrong tho

Seriously, where is that anon from last night? He blew 70k on a 3x leveraged inverse index for banking and he's already 20% down before the market even opens. Are you dead like I told you you would be? Did you do a flip?
