This is what you get for investing in something that pretends to be a security but isn't a security. The company makes it sound like you have something to gain by purchasing their token, but they don't legally owe you anything and can just dump on you whenever they want. You get no disclosures about their revenue or how they are spending the money they make by dumping their token on you.

I don't know if they would be approved if they registered as a security. Probably not. They don't make money in any way other than by selling you their token.

Why would anyone want to invest in something by buying a token when the only way the company makes money is by selling people the token?

Chainlink is a company that employs hundreds of people who all expect to be paid Silicon Valley salaries, and the company doesn't make any money except by selling its token.

In the stock market and securities law this is called a scam.

The SEC requires securities to be registered and disclosures to be provided so that investors can know that they are buying something that has inherent value outside of the speculation from investors buying it. When you invest in a company by buying its stock, the company makes money irrespective of selling you its stock, and that profit is what makes the stock valuable in the first place.

A token that is the only source of revenue for a company might not be a security, but that's because it's a piece of shit.

This is why crypto needs regulations. There are thousands of these tokens that have no inherent value and are scams whether or not the companies or investors even realize it. Every one of these projects is just hoping that by some miracle the token will find a use case that will make people want to spend money on it for reasons other than speculation.

Great post and well said. Sergey created a “subtle hype” with the tokenomics of this project. No one realizes how much he’s gained from dumps.
