It just reinforce what I'm saying then. You'll get a spin out from your initial shares in SGD for a new discovery (that is very risky, nothing is sure about this new one). A new buyer right now get nothing from SGD and not enough of the new entity.

Its just better buying Gogold for this market cap and riding the silver bullmarket. Or aim at other discovery that has been made but still not priced in.

You talk like it's impossible to make good money trading dumpster penny stocks. It's not that hard to derive a decent income, pay minimal or no taxes, and do almost no real work.

Salaries are wagie talk. Annual income is what you pay taxes on. It includes business income, cap gains, etc. Although I meant it more in a general sense, ignoring bonus depreciation and such.
Do you have a better term?

Anyway, I agree that mining industry investments are largely scams. At least in the public sector. As a sector insider, have you ever been gifted shares related to "consulting" or other services? Have you ever participated in a private placement?

You can make money playing poker too, but the average person loses. It's negative sum. Trading those trash heaps is the same way.
I've had success trading, but I think this concept is important to understand. The "index" may appreciate over time on average, but that doesn't mean there's infinite free money to go around. It's a competition, and the stinkier the turd you choose to compete in, the less likely it is that the average person comes out with profit.
In general, the rational decision is not to play.

I'm not sure small mines even exist anymore in the US, they're all gone where I'm at. But nah, they couldn't afford automation. How much mines can be automated depends on if it's surface or underground Open pits are easier to automate because you've got 2 fewer faces that could crush equipment. Mines are already pretty well automated though. Operations that used to employ thousands of men now employ a few hundred because so many jobs primarily in drilling and haulage have been mechanized a lot.

As to temperature, Pan Man knows more than me about mining in arctic conditions, but underground it doesn't matter much and on the surface we have standard precautions like using different weight lubes, stronger antifreeze, leaving engines running, more frequent maintenance. Mines are often in inhospitable places, our equipment is built to survive worse conditions than most.

oddly enough companies don't usually hand that sort of intel out to their contractors. I might hear things from the people I work with, but it's rumor and I wouldn't buy or sell based on employee chatter because that's constant and hard to judge.

not a problem really for equipment, but more of a problem for humans getting cancer

One of the places I work (Freeport's Climax Mine) is at 12-13k feet. I've had a couple skin cancers removed.

more interesting is that almost no equipment is rated to work that high, so employing machines at that altitude often voids the warranty, negates liability, and has questionable utility. In real life the cold temperatures and lack of oxygen concentration is usually a bigger factor than radiation.

I had a rough idea for a business but I don't know how feasible it would be, and it's certainly not something I could do right now. I'm posting it ITT because it's based around debt and debt and M2 supply are macro indicators, and you are all intelligent people

Anyways, let's suppose I had a few million dollars and a legal team, etc. Most people are getting crushed on debt. Let's say credit cards, HELOCs, PLOCs, that sort of stuff. A lot of them have interest rate terms of 10, 15, 20% or more. Ugly stuff long term, but some people just live that way. In theory, you could inject $10,000 to $50,000 or whatever with a client so they could pay off their high interest rate debt, but then get a secured loan against their house or income for that amount, structured so that they repay you over 2-5 years at a lower rate, such as 6-10%. If it's secured or collateralized debt, such as a lien against their residence's equity, then the amount of risk is very low. Or am I missing something?

your clientele would be the very highest risk users of debt and they wouldn't need your services until they were on the verge of bankruptcy already

in a bankruptcy your lien or collateral would probably get wiped out

but yes, this is an existing service already. Usually combined with "negotiating" the client's debt down by not paying it for 6 months and then offering to pay it off for pennies on the dollar.

It's sorta a scam, and it's extremely high risk. But pays well enough that millions of companies are doing it.

My problem is that I consider myself intermediate/advanced as far as the average retail trader goes, which puts me into peak midwit territory. I know enough about what to avoid and base familiarity about certain things to be competent to an outsider, but not competent enough to be a professional or make decisions that generate value over time.
I'm down only 35% from when I started 3 years ago, and this was during one of the biggest bullshit bull markets in history. Some people made disgusting multiples and others lost their ass. I've more or less averaged out. I can't get ahead but I can't fuck up either. I don't have the retard luck or savvy business sense to pull ahead. I suppose I'm just tired since I feel like I should be able to succeed with the knowledge I have but I can't.
Just need to get a consistent trading system figured out and I can start being cash positive for once. It's difficult to swing trade and accept a 4% win, but then it becomes a 10% loss. Or bad option spreads. I don't know

Would be great if Salt's new CEO was someone from or affiliated with Compass, Morton or Fortesque or any other big players interested in the hydrogen or salt markets.
That could be an implication that the project is going to be sold for them and could basically just start a growth trend until the deal is done.
Got to admit holding has been pretty painful because of the god damn delays, but at least we're nearing the point of a new beginning and it'll get way more interesting.
Still I feel like we're not going to get any sale news or offers until TPR is sorted out.
Salt's ownership is way too large and so is the potential of TPR This can't just be sold like that without knowing how much money the hydrogen play might bring, because it could be even +1bil more to the value.

Sounds like one is bringing equipment designed for normal/moderate conditions to its limits to see how far those limits stretch.

>>55777412
>some tech doesn't work well in low oxygen environments (anything with an engine)
That's where space tech potentially shines. So far most space stuff is small-scale and experimental drilling and testing a bunch of sensors, actuators, and electric motors. I wonder how well that would scale to terrestrial applications. I don't want to underestimate the energy needed to drill and move heavy stuff and the wear and tear the material has to withstand under real mining conditions.
>Altitude literally kills people, and even more often disables them
Having a pressurized, temperature-controlled, radiation-shielded mining suit, would that be helpful and work? I immediately see the issues with it (donning and doffing is inconvenient, constrained fine motor skills), but can imagine that one could compensate that with tech tailored to operate with the suit to some degree.

Can you think of applications that immediately help and make life easier (and safer)? If I have a (smaller, approachable) use case, I can look into the required steps to build a prototype. That would teach me a lot about the issues involved.

I apologize for my naive questions while I still have to learn so much (reading books takes time), so thanks for all the feedback.

As suspected the locations in the middle of utter nowhere, even with Resolute being the next island over, its a massive headache to mobilize a drilling program up there. Shipping is the big bottle neck, getting stuff up there is expensive by ship or aircraft.

On the other hand, the locations incredible from an on the ground exploration view point, no overburden to work through, its all exposed rock. There are only a few places out there you can actually see the different formations from aerial photos. Its still a frozen hell hole though to work on, that would not be at all fun to work in even during mid summer.

I think Gary needs to start taking some responsibility. Two horrendous calls so close to each other. First to go leverage right when the price reverses, then to sell the bottom before it moves up.

News are coming next week at the latest, it's a bit late to play the game of penny flipping with this, because the upcoming stuff can easily do anything to the price.
Also the wording on Compass site has a vague implication they might be looking into getting this property.

https://www.compassminerals.com/info/news/compass-minerals-adds-jonathan-rose-to-senior-management-team/

>lead efforts to continue charting a long-term strategic roadmap for the company through the optimization of its core Salt and Plant Nutrition businesses

It'll be difficult to compete long term against such a low cost producer, especially if energy prices start crawling up. They need to acquire it to stay relevant.
This is going to be an interesting ride, might not play out all that quickly though because there are many factors that can drag it on a bit.
Mainly the damn TPR question, because you can't even start making offers about a company when there's a potential extra billion of MC in the air.

Looks poised for a drop to me. Also going into winter where seasonality usually has it priced lower than summer. But that's my logical take on it and we know how clown markets respond to logic

Hey panman,
if Blue Lagoon were to get their last permit in December how long would it take for them start mining?
The area is covered in snow until spring, as you've said before.
Does the weather greatly impact mining operations?

that depends on if they go with a mining contractor (like Procon or CMAC for example) or if they do the mining themselves. Contractors are busy at the moment, and finding good underground staff could be challenging as everyone is already working. Finding gear to operate wont be difficult, they already have a tamrock jumbo, haul trucks and scoop tram on site, and much of the needed development work has already been completed in the past from the previous owners. They may need to find more bits and pieces of different gear to actually begin mining though.

Best guess 2-4 months to actually get going, depending on if they are doing further development work underground or actually drawing from stopes. At least operating at Dome shouldnt be to difficult, the ground is pretty solid, easy to bolt and secure without costly shotcrete or cable bolting.

Thanks for your answer.
So could they also start in the middle of winter when snow is chest high?

>> No.55802314

>>55802135
and the only thing that weather effects out there could be hauling on Old Babine Lake Rd, it can get really sketchy in late winter, basically a winding skating rink. It doesnt get to -40 up there much either anymore so cold shouldnt be an issue. Heavy snowfall just means you need to plow and move more snow.

>> No.55802330

>>55802312
yep thats totally doable, it just means you need to put more rip rap down by the portal to give your vehicles more traction. Spring would suck to do start up on out there for example, all the FSRs become boggy, loads of water to deal with too causes headaches.
