Hello frens, do any of you who have bought suits before have advice for a first timer? I’m a college student trying to get into the finance field, not trying to spend too much but need something professional/respectable. Maybe $4-600 at most, I’m 5’8 130 lbs but hoping to beef up a little over the year (ask the tailor to leave some room for muscle growth?). I’m going to go check out the local suit place that’s been in business 50+ years, just seeing if you have any suggestions for style or maybe say order online and just get it tailored… a suit is really just a sports coat+button down+pants right? Just as long as everything matches?

Don't forget the shoes, socks and tie, depending on what look you're going for.

I've always worn all black with no tie.

Ya, just tell them to leave a little room if you plan on putting 10 - 15 pounds on.

Don't order online, go to a tailor and have them physically measure you. Just like shie and shirt brands, the sizes change for some reason.

You can get a decent interview suit for $600. That would include shirt, shoes, and tie. I like Suit Supply if you're in the US, but I've heard mixed reviews. The one near me is awesome. You could just tell the dude your budget and he'd show you your options

> $4-600 dollars

NGMI

Multiply that number by at least 5, 10 would be better.
Get full customized suit, with customized buttons,s tichings, color, models folds, interior fabric, everything. Get TWO pants, THREE shirts, TWO ties of the same color/model.
You always wear 1, ahve 1 spare and probably still have a shirt in the washer. Always have a spare pants and tie since, when lunching out, when some waiter or colleague spills you over with their lame ass coffe, you can wear fresh clean ones.
ALWAYS wash your suit by dry cleaners. NEVER IN THE WASHING AMCHINES. Don't be cheap about that.
The shirts are ok to wash in the machien though.

> T. Consultant for goverments that need to tell C-level people they are full of retarded shit and why - hence the suit , and gets payed for it.

Yup yup. I’ve got a nice pair of white dress boots but I’m not sure if they’d go with a suit. And how could I forget sizes hardly mean anything… thanks anon!

Lyndon B Johnson said he’d fluctuate 10-15 lbs a month, do with this info what you will

I’d love to get a few $2k suits but daddy isn’t paying for it, I’m in college with 1.5 years left, just looking for an internship right now. I’m also not trying to work at JPedo Morgan or anything, and I’ll even casually mention that I’m not spending much on suits because my spare money is for crypto

Bought a suit for my wedding few months ago. Also paid for my groomsmens'. Go someplace local, don't do Joseph A Bank or shit like that. They will say "ohhhh well I can't cut you a deal and it's gonna get here late and if anything goes wrong you are royally fucked."
Find a good local guy even if you have to drive two hours to get to a tailor. It makes all the difference. Sadly my guy croaked of a stroke at 28 years old last month. Gotta find someone new.

Also $400-600 is reasonable if you get a local guy.

Get a samuelsohn on sale. Usually $700-900, made in montreal, full canvass. Better than brooks brothers regular line.

Get it fitted/tailored well.

Suit supply is a very good choice for a budget suit. Great value for the price. Even their cheapest suits are better than more expensive department store unlined crap.

Lots of bad advice on here. First you should never buy a suit unless it's 100% wool. Second, if your not getting a bespoke suit from someone local you figure out your size and get a brooks brothers suit. Take it to a tailor to finish. 42 of 46 US presidents have worn brooks brothers. It's a classic look appropriate for any occassion. For your price range you would go for a brooks brothers 1818. Get a new customer coupon to get a discount. The weave is also important. A nice plaid weave is my favorite. Window pain and Birdseye are also nice. Solid weaves like herringbone are cheaper looking and will show any wear, dust, dog hair, etc. a lot more. You will always need a lint roller. I'm not a fan of pinstripes either, looks cheesy. If you are Italian maybe thats the look you want. For your first suit you should go with charcoal, grey, or navy. Black is for funerals, and again, will always need a lint roller. Get quality non iron shirts. I think Charles tyrwhitt shirts are a great value. Their slim fit is what you want unless your fat. Your tie should be 100% silk. All of this would fit your budget. The shoes however will cost you another $200 if you want quality leather shoes. Allen Edmunds is the standard for good shoes. I have gone through a lot of dress cloths over the years and this is the best quality/value setup you can get.

Also 2 button and regular collar is the way to go for a classic look. Fully lined at minimum. Full canvas if you can afford it but half canvas is not bad if it's a brooks brothers. I can't really tell the difference between my half and full canvas suits.
