That 3 - 5 million figure is a gross general estimate. How much you really need depends on several factors; Where you live, how you live, your health, what you want to do. Then this; A pension and a 401k. If you have this then cramming your 401k as fat as you can is not really something you gotta prioritize cause that pension comes to you from the day you retire to the day you die. The 401k acts as more of a "what if" account more than anything else.
