looks like you could do it with a big pot of coffee over an evening doesnt it? blows my mind that there can be so many combinations from those words which I could say in a minute or two reading one by one.

I recall someone using something called brute force to get into accounts back in the day (like 15+ years ago when I was in high school).
Couldn't someone do something similar to this?

>only 10^38 possible 12 word seed phrases
Am I reading this right, are there more possible private keys than 12 word seed phrases possible? What happens if two different wallets generate the same seed phrase?

>> No.57585190

>>57585037
>Couldn't someone do something similar to this?
no, the number of different wallet addresses from those words is way too large to comb through, not even with a supercomputer.
But do try your luck: https://keys.lol/

>>57585140
you can also have 24-word keys.
>What happens if two different wallets generate the same seed phrase?
That would be very bad, two people would access the same funds.

Where did you get that number from? 12 words are 11(the number of words that matter, the 12th or 24th words are checksums)^2048 (the number of words in the list).

its the wrong approach.
instead of trying to find a wallet with money,
you open up 100000 empty wallets and wait until someone puts their money in one of them.

>> No.57586126

>>57586091

That won't work:

For a 10-character password: 62^10 ≈ 839,299,365,868,340,224 combinations
For a 12-character password: 62^12 ≈ 3,226,266,762,397,899,824,029,344 combinations

The longer the pw, the greater the complexity. In so few words, impossible.

Passphrases aren't outside the key space. [seed words] + [passphrase] maps to another set of seed words. It's the pigeon and hole problem, infinite pigeons but only a finite number of holes means more than one pigeon will end up going in the same hole.

>What happens if two different wallets generate the same seed phrase?
This has always been a possibility, but it's an astronomically unlikely one. Even if you generated a quintillion seeds, that's only 0.000000000000000000001% of possible combinations... so it's very unlikely that any of them would ever be the same

No there isn't. All the combinations of those words have enough entropy to represent 256 bit security but some keys that exist in practice won't be represented here because some keys weren't created with this mnemonic dictionary. Aka it's a set with 256 bit entropy but there are other sets with 256 bit entropy that don't entirely overlap with this one.

you realize passcodes add an extra word that’s not on this list right? Meaning you can only guess people’s wallets from this list who chose to not use their own password which basically just makes your seed phrase 13 words

Oh and also there’s about 1000000 quintillion possibilities of combinations from this list, so your chance of guessing a wallet address is basically 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%
