Correct me if I'm wrong:
Gold is over valued, silver is devalued, but even with that, both will increase their value even more because the bubbles haven't burst yet.

So if I have fiat money, I should buy them, in a higher silver than gold proportion.

Yeah, check my numbers, but I believe silver has outperformed inflation by about 2x since it was demonetized 60 years ago, and gold has outperformed inflation by about 8x since it was legalized in 1975. These are fairly slow gains.

They both perform better than US dollars, but they usually crab around the rate of inflation. Every now and then they spike up higher than inflation. Very low risk, usually slow gains. But almost always a better gain than dollars.

For me it's 25 years in the silver and gold mining business where my job depends entirely on the price of metals.

Also a good 40 years personally stacking silver and gold through bull markets and bears. When I say I believe silver is low, I'm betting my livelihood on that, and I don't generally lose bets on metal prices. However I am also not a fortune teller, and people should make up their own minds what to buy.

good question, and if you run the numbers you'll find silver did much better and gold much worse since 1935.

That's the sort of intelligent observation I don't really expect from you. Nice job.

I don't count 1980 because obvious reasons. I was stacking silver in 1980 and what happened that year isn't normal or likely to happen again.

That's a bit dramatic. More like the USA's position as the world leader cannot last forever, but it has a lot of inertia. Bad things like war, poverty, disease, monetary issues, instability etc have happened here before and it's naive to think they won't happen again. PMs won't magically protect you from that stuff but they could maybe help you feel a whole lot less uncomfortable in bad times.

Easy to say that fiat is the big loser and probably pretty soon. Harder to say whether gold or silver is the better buy. Supply and demand are complicated. Far more complicated than just crustal abundance. For example, if gold were remonetized internationally it will leave silver in the dust. If not, silver will probably beat it out just from its industrial use. And that is way to simple of an analysis to be the basis of an "all in" bet.

I suggest buying both. And filter FUDS, shit-stirrers, and rude people.

Luckily the lessons from history are available to everyone who cares to look. When asset prices started to move higher during Weimar hyperinflation, people were selling their precious holdings thinking they were rich only for the price to never stop and all of that cash they secured being worth nothing at the end of the day. U.S. exchange students being sent gold backed dollars were literally buying up blocks of apartment buildings because no one could afford their upkeep who did not have access to strong currency.
It sounds bizarre and too good to be true. But this $22TN GDP is sitting ontop of $46TN bond market. As the interest comes due for the largest single economic entity, the U.S. federal government, they will exponentially be increasing their debt issuance all the while the interest payments continue to suction up all investment capital in the world until cooler heads run for the door.

I used to budget $X for my monthly spending. And this year I have started adjusting my spending habits. And by doing so, I have enough money to earn a free $200-300 purchase from an online retailer. Just don't give your money away and you can earn yourself a free 10oz bar or roll of junk quarters every month.

I have a buyer on ebay pretending his envelop arrived empty, but the envelop wasn't tampered with. I am 200% certain i sent him the coin, and i've strong clues the coin was still in there when he received the envelop.
So basically he either try to scam me or he's losing his mind.
He threaten to open a reclamation saying i sent him an empty envelop. I've hundreds of sales on ebay and never encountered this kind of fuckery, what should i do?
I know ebay tend to protect the buyers, but my perfect track record on the platform should weight a bit, r-right?
The coin isn't that expensive, around 50 bux, but that's still some money to me.

Good to hear, and yeah i'm a 100% positive sellerfag.
But that's also where i find it weird, because the buyer also have a good track record. Thing is, if he pulls this kind of tricks every once in a while as a buyer, it wont show on his evaluations of course.
So it's basically his word vs mine.

Where i find it extra sus is after he threatened to open a reclamation, i asked him to do so ASAP. I believe it caught him off-guard, because instead of following through and opening a ticket, he started to try to haggle and wanted to reach an amicable settlement... asking to share the loss.
Me think he must try this trick here and there, threatening to reach for the support team and hoping for a 50/50 split with the sellers, via a direct refund on paypal or whatever. And if his bluff doesn't work, there isn't anything appearing on ebay's radar since there is no litigation process (and as a seller, if an item is marked as arrived, i can't reach to ebay to complain about a successful sale).

In my last message i politely called him a liar and he didn't answer back, nor opened a ticket ever since. Hopefully i wont hear from him.

ps : he have a jewish last name, so i was suspicious about his story from minute zero.

Base grampy inheritance slurper. I too love to put my greasy paws on oldies the families ditches asap to buy their daily dose of goyslop.

No later than yesterday i got a bunch of old silber coins i purchased for below spot in a lot. It was a fucking treasure trove : Netherlands' indies coins, british Mauritius, West Africa colonies, Palestine mils, Ceylon cents,...
Cherry on top of the silver cake : a super rare 1897's 50c Semeuse, and a 250 Romanian Lei from 1939.
Sadly, the condition of the semeuse is really, really bad, otherwise this tiny coin alone would have paid for the entire lot two times over.

Even i wasn't expecting this, it was buried under a bunch of common belgian/british/french silver constitutional.
You can tell it's not by chance so many different places are in, must have been part of a collection at some point, nobody was traveling that much a century+ ago, and dates are too far apart.
But a boomie died, a roastie inherited, and a /pmg/ bro slurped. Such is the cycle of life. Pic unrelated, just wanted to show the results after 1 hour battling with a toothpick on a very dirty coin i got last week.

Strange. I started collecting the Liz gold Brits right before she died. Almost immediatly they started minting the Chucks. Cost me a bit more to finish off the collection as they rose in price pretty quickly and became scarce overnight. What the fuck is Perth's problem? I doubt they already struck 2 years worth of Liz.

I see what you are saying, but don't worry it's not a problem for coins. The demand is always there. I guess it can be an issue if you don't accept to send orders outside of your borders, but within the EU there are no tariffs/no customs between nations. But if for example i accept to send pic rel to the Netherlands, i know it will sell soon enough.
Sadly this one is pierced so i wont get a great price out of it.

But if you are in the US and are collecting only rare belgian coins, it could be tricky to get a great price for it within your borders. Collectors are really chauvinist, they tend to collect stuff from their country. The main exception being ancient Greek & Roman coinage (which is the smartest thing to collect investment wise i believe).

Ofc don't expect to land this kind of stuff whenever you want, this is the exception rather than the rule. I spend time everyday scouting on ebay, and sometimes it's really rewarding, like this lot. As long as you buy something for melt value, anything with numismatic value inside is free bonus. It's like gambling but even when you lose you are winning.

Flip side. When it showed up the coin was very dirty, and since it's made from a pretty reactive metal (zinc) i didn't want to mess with it chemically, beside a pure acetone bath of few minutes and hot water.
As you can see there is a deposit over the "10". At first i thought it was some cement or something. But once i cleaned it a bit more, i wonder if it's not a mint error, because it looks like gluts of zinc from the coin itself.
Mint error? Chemical reaction?
If you have any clue of what it could be...

that would be super neat if it were an error that occurred during the minting process but considering the age and composition, i would imagine that it is probably some sort of oxidation or corrosion. I also like these and have a few pic related- because of course I have to post mine too XD. I don't really see any similar spots on mine. The way that spot across the 10 looks almost bubbly, I would guess it is just due to aging but still wouldn't rule it out without talking to an expert which i am not.

on numista, scroll down underneath the description to where there are the various auctions or sales of this particular coin and some have some aging that kind of look like yours.

We've talked in the past about what it would take for ancients to gain popularity in the US, and I think this touches on it.

In my experience most US coin collectors aren't buying coins because they're interested in the topic on the coin, or in the history of the time or whatever.

We buy coins because we're OCD/autistic completionists. We want the full set. The collection is about completing the set, whatever that set might be. So a lot of US numismatists (maybe even most of them) will buy coins they don't really care about or want if it completes the set they're trying to collect. It's normal to see collections consisting of a large pile of crap coins with one or two really amazing pieces mixed in. Because we want the whole set. The US mint knows this, and they know that low-mintage, unpopular coins are going to wind up being the valuable ones, the ones everyone will need to finish their collections.

This is also the reason ancients and exonumia and foreigns and generic bullion have never really caught on in the US. Either it's impossible to complete a set because some pieces are too rare, or the set is too large to complete with any finality.
Picrelate- The only complete set of Stumptown Colorado saloon tokens in the world. There is only one. Nobody else can complete this set unless I sell or die. Which makes it a lot less fun for people to try.

That's a crazy collection fren, very nice!

>that would be super neat if it were an error that occurred during the minting process but considering the age and composition, i would imagine that it is probably some sort of oxidation or corrosion
Could very well be that, and that was my first guess too once i cleaned a bit the coin, but what makes me turn on the gas on is it's extra material, there is no missing material, only added "concretions". Maybe zinc degrade this way idk, in truth i've no idea because i don't have other old zinc i believe.
But if it was let say copper, i'd immediately think of added material, it's very clear once you pass your fingers over it, it makes little "hills" but with no crevices.
Lemme fetch my jeweler loupe fren, i'll try to give you a close up pic in better definition. brb!

>to where there are the various auctions or sales of this particular coin and some have some aging that kind of look like yours.
I must be blind because i don't see any similar aging on the contrary kek.

I don't know much about zinc, but that's how aluminum corrodes. It makes raised blisters or bubbles that look like added metal. But if you scrape the metal a bit it flakes off and reveals a hole underneath. Zinc might do the same thing, that's sorta what your coin looks like to me.

i also don't know enough about zinc or have any other zinc coins besides a few of the 1 & 5 Reichspfennigs (pic related), these are the ones that are usually fairly cheap and they are still pretty abundant on ebay or other places. though i need to go back through them and separate them because have them all in the same bag. 1s and 5s were made of zinc, aluminum, and bronze. Not sure if the 50 Reichspfennig I have is zinc or nickel- going to have to weigh it but I think it is zinc off-hand.
I don't know if the difference in composition was due to needing specific metals for different purposes during war, especially since the bronze is pre 1940 and the aluminum and zinc seem to be from 1940 and after.

You have a point Bobro.
But i suppose this Thumbman or whatever is part of a stronk US BIPOC wymyn serie? Who'd want to collect that whole serie in the first place?

Unless you mean there are people collecting everything sold as collectable by the US mint? It seems like an impossible task, right? They are sharting these out like there is no tomorrow it feels like. Very reminescent of trading card games once companies go in full milking mode... With Hasbro for example they literally are selling "special" versions every single week. As you can imagine, the fatigue set in pretty rapidly, even the whales can't keep up, and eventually the "specials" sell for zero premium on the secondary market.

Most likely, large scale war is very, very copper intensive, mainly to craft shells at an industrial scale. Governments tend to use any alternative, even the US replaced copper coins with iron/alu during WW2. Even silver in some instances was used to replace copper.

I am among those selling. First sold 3k oz's I bought back in 1983 @ $13.84 in 2015 at nearly break even! Was a great decision. Sold more in 2021, again a great decision. The metals are just dead money; and even worse, silver isn't even keeping up w/inflation.

Silver and gold go through fad cycles. Public gets interested, price goes up, public gets more interested.
then price goes down, public loses interest, price goes down more.

you bought at the top of a fad cycle. Probably sold at the bottom. Because you're a sheep. Oldfags know you buy when nobody wants it and then just wait a bit for the public to get interested again. Might be a year, might be a decade, but the fad cycle will certainly continue.

looks like you have the 1939 nickel composition
https://en.. numista. com/catalogue/pieces15869. html worth significantly more around ~$40 for the 1939 A (Berlin 15 million minted) but you have the 1939 D (Munich 3.6 million minted) which doesn't even have an average price listed for any of the grades on numista. That is a 50 Reichspfennig? and that's your coin in the pic?
