Hardware wallets keep your seed phrase completely offline. Also it's a lot harder to accidentally click bad links from them if they are physically sitting somewhere until you are ready to sell. I have both a hot and cold wallet. If you want to back up your seed phrase you can then pgp encrypt it while disconnected from the Internet on a secure machine and then save that encrypted seed phrase somewhere.

I like trezor it's fully open source and it worked super easily with my AVI. Lots of people like ledger too.

You can use dapps such as uniswap without going through metamask on ledger and probably most other hardware wallets. You can't actually transfer to other accounts with it so there's no chance of getting hacked/drained. Even if there was, you need to physically authenticate every transaction on the physical wallet itself.
