I dont know law in US, but here in Norway you only get extra tax. Between 15-60% of tax you evaded. Nobody is going to jail.

Also, you have 3 years to correct your tax incoming incase you didnt report.

There is also something called Tax Amnesty here. Even if you evaded taxes for shitlong time and had your fiat in Caymans, but still didnt get caught, and you now want to live by the law, they will help you pay taxes and pay only few % extra instead of 15-60%.
