Can money really buy happiness?

>> No.93012

No. But it can buy you fun.

>> No.93035

It can buy you a lifetime of security so you can do what makes you happy.

>> No.93065

It can buy spikes of emotion and of course is crucial to security up to a certain point, but when you're talking megarich, it just ends up working against love.

>> No.93084

Depends on the person and their situation.

>> No.93081

It can give you the opportunity to be happy but you still have to work toward it

It can make you happy, but if you need to sacrifice other things that make you happy then it probably won't. So if you don't enjoy earning money it probably won't make you happy.

I read comics at work and watch anime at home all day, I only work 25 hours a week for $10/hr. I have an interview to teach English in Japan for marginally better pay this weekend.

it's ok I guess

Obviously there is a balance between earning money and pursuing other interests in life.

If you're making more money than you can spend, but are working 90 to 100 hour weeks doing something you hate, then money only serves to dull the pain.

Hence most investment bankers enter the field with an exit strategy.

It's a job, not a fucking afterschool club. Do your job, acquire assets and hobbies. A million pieces of green paper wouldn't make me happy, but 100,000 blowjobs sure as fuck would.

Things can only bring the rare, idiotic person happiness. As long as you have enough money to support yourself and your family (if you want one) your happiness has nothing to do with the shit you accumulate.

They don't make dank at all. They make decent money in terms of salary but on an hourly basis actually don't make great money. The VAST majority of them end up only being there fora few years before leaving for somewhere that will pay them more and work them less.

>> No.95382

To the point of financial security, yes.

You still need to do things that are interesting and challenging and find a way to find self realization. You'll have an existential crisis and blow your brains out otherwise no matter how rich you are.

>> No.95395

It can make life easier and save you time and work, but happiness is something that can only come from inside.

>> No.95728

Guess it depends on your current situation relative to money. If you're already well off and likely debt free, money can likely add some variety to your life. But if you're dirt poor and live in shitsville, money will bring you peace of mind, security, well-being, and a future. Sure, you can be happy while being dirt poor, but stressing out over any kind of medical bill or if your car gets trashed is the opposite of happiness. Like that poor happy Mexican farmer adage, does that fucker have any teeth? What's his life expectancy? I'd say happiness in that sort of life is just ignorance of a better life's existence.

>> No.95755

Happiness cannot be bought, won, bargained with or cajoled.

It's like a fickle cat and either comes to you or leaves you depending on it's own volition.

It cannot be controlled

>> No.95763

Of course it can. It can buy fleeting happiness only, some may say, but fleeting happiness is happiness nonetheless. And if you buy enough of it, it may last just long enough so that you never experience unhappiness until you die.
