Popular brokers for stock trading:

Robinhood
>commission free and no minimum to open
http://www.robinhood.com

> How is it free?
Robinhood earns revenue by collecting interest on cash/securities and fees from their Robinhood Gold service

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

so I'm genuinely worried, I think I made a whoopsie boo boo putting my first 1k in the market ever last wednesday.

I know, "don't put it what you can't afford to lose". Losing 1k won't kill me, Theoretically I could afford to lose it, but it's still a good chunk of my savings.

I'm considering just selling all the green stock at open tomorrow and just holding cash until shit happens on Tuesday and Wednesday

Probably. I don't really know though.
There's also that Korean summit thing on Tuesday before the rate hikes on Wednesday.
I feel like the tariffs are only about as big as everything else going on right now.
There's so much shit that I couldn't possibly look at how they impact what or if they're priced in already.
It's going to be a bumpy week. I think it's best to plan for further out than just this week with how unpredictable this shit is going to be.

Hoping to sell off some TLT puts.
Still mostly in cash and consumer discretionaries/staples.
Hopefully tech/SPY will go down a fair amount late this week or early next week for a good entry point to buy back in.

If SPY continues to fly, the TLT puts will do bad.
If SPY dumps, TLT puts will shit the bed but I'll be able to swap my cash for good prices on SPXL.
I think this is a pretty good set up to be in rn.

I'm looking at historical charts of the DOW and S&P.
The DOW peaked at ~13,000 before the crash in 2008.
The S&P peaked at ~1500.

They are both now at 25,000 and 2780 points, respectively.

Where does this new wealth come from? Where is it coming from, such that the industrial averages can nearly double from their previous historic highs in not even 10 years?
How are such gains possible, and how can they be considered sustainable? Obviously things can't increase like this forever

At worst we continue existing North Korean policy (china cheating sanctions). At best we get some positive result.

This is unless you're Canadian and trade from your TFSA; in which case no tax on profits and no write off on losses so long as you don't get flagged as a day trader running a "business". I tend to trade my high risk stuff in my cash account instead of TFSA so I can at least get the loss write off if the trade is a losing deal.

Possibility (low chance)

They agree to set North Korea on a Chinese style transition. Opening up economic zones and the economy while keeping kim in charge.

This might be the most likely eventuality. If this is the plan the meeting will go great and Trump can walk away with a huge win. Markets will go bananas.

Most of them are privately owned and their most valuable assets are their customerbase. It is a business that still retain the personal relationship side of business.

But with the advent of Amazon and the death of the brick and mortar businesses, it is a bying industry imo. Only spics, immigrants or other low-end retailers need their merchandise.

GREAT BIG BULL WEEK

EVERYONE GET MONEY IN THE MARKET

ALERT: The fears of a bad photo op happening should be near ZERO. North Korea is on a carrot mentality right now. They phase in and out of carrot vs stick negotiations. Going from belligerent "we will kill you all" to good, the relative change pops sentiment and makes democratic leaders (elections matter) swoop in to look good.

They then don't do anything they promised and revert back to stick approach.

North Korea will give Trump a PR win the same way they have been giving south korea a PR win.

>> No.9834629

no it's not. Tech isn't a bubble it's just overvalued.

For a bubble you need the growth to die down so the hype explodes. Tech can be bullish on AI/ML etc for the next 10 years safely.

The bubbles are in other areas like real estate value, automobile production, energy, and oil. San Fran is in decline but not because of financial bubbles, but because of poor governance. Natural flows of people leaving will solve any problems it has. no explosion

It doesn't matter how amazing their ML tech is: you can't run a business forever with negative profit margins. All these companies are running out of investor cash to keep them afloat, and more and more it's looking like they'll never be able to achieve the kind of revenue they need to warrant their valuations. SF has so many problems, like insane housing costs, crime, and homelessness, that as soon as these companies start to cut back on salary and benefits all of their workers will flee and the city's tax base will vanish. SF spends a lot of money, so that will be a big, big problem.

The city is a housing bubble built on top of a tech bubble built on top of a venture capital bubble built on top of a banking bubble. I just need a way to short their muni bonds.

That's the start-up community, not tech in general.
FB, GOOG, AMZN are highly profitable. GOOG & FB drive ML, anybody else doesn't know how the fuck to turn a profit with it.
You're describing the bad eggs like SNAP, P that are disgustingly late stage start-ups that can't figure out what the fuck monetization is, nor can the fucking retards sustaining their multi-billion dollar evaluations.
Start-ups typically run with negative profit at the start. That's why they need venture capital. The issue is now there's these bad eggs like SNAP that haven't left that stage of negative profit and are looking more and more like they never will.

Me personally, when I started I was an MU-fag with a side bet of 30% into oil and gas to figure out how the commodities markets work in conjunction with the stock market, learned that they're primarily longer holds that peak and fall in the summertime, wintertime, along with EPA whining (especially with IFA regulations concerning sulfur, heavy versus light oils coming 2020) to come. Now I invest in a sand company that makes very nice sand, and it's a key contributor in the production of domestic (U.S.) sweet oil, something that's price will be realized extremely soon.

Besides that, tech is medium to light volatility where bio-pharma is fucking insane. The week to come will be your chance to make or break, but you have very little time to do research my friend.

Hasbro:

Digital content sucks ass
Toys are mediocre
IPs are dying like MTG

but

toy channels on youtube get multi billion views from abandoned modern children who grow up with autoplay youtube raising them so nerf and "video friendly" toys are huge.

Without this effect, which is totally outside of machinations of hasbro, they would be shitter.

I think the entire miniature industry (X-Wing, Warhammer 40k) is at all-times highs right now, same for pen and paper RPGs. KJU has every incentive to suck trump's cock at the summit. It's a photo op for both parties that will make them look good.

Here is a meeting

1. I can offer you anything, then slow roll it or just not do it ultimately.
2. You have to look good for your voter base.

The thing is North Korea can pump democracy asshole. Trump and Moon have to look like they want peace, which means giving North Korea good PR and what they want. In return Moon and Trump look good to their voters.

North Korea's valuable capital here is making democratically elected candidates look good via photo ops. AKa Moon hugging KJU and talking about peace.

KJU will give Trump a political win this week.

The real question (that matters) is if North Korea will do any functional changes. The thing is voters, public and PR don't care about functional changes and just a photo op and "peace is good".

This week is an automatic win for donald trump, North Korea will give him that. The real quesiton is over the next years if they do anything they promise or say.

They can go back to being quiet on nukes, give trump the appearance of a win, ad no elected leader will want to shatter that illusion.

Basically this meeting

KJU will give Trump the appearance of a win no matter what. The actual deal they come to can simply not be followed by Nkorea.

If North Korea has no plans to denuclearize or stop progress it would still "fake" that it will at this meeting. All options give KJU the incentive to make this meeting a "peace" one that makes nkorea look good and peaceful.

So for instance if I planned to stab you in the neck 5 months from now. At our PR meeting I would be friendly and nice. Anyone expecting a bad meeting is simply hugely low IQ.

Do not sell stocks
Do not get out.
Do not put this week.

So why the fuck isnt anyone talking about iHop changing to iHob on /biz/? To me, this seems like a huge deal for Dine Brand (DIN) considering they've done such a good job creating hype around the name change. They just announced that the "b" is for burgers which isn't what I think of when I think of iHop, but none the less this is a major change and once the locations start converting I think it will make a second wave of hype. DIN owns Apple Bee's too but I think any future growth will come from iHop, and I think it will be significant but I'm just a brainlet with a bitch portfolio. What are your thoughts on this change? Should I go balls deep on DIN and hope for the best over the next year maybe two? Will iHob kill them? Who will win American idol this year?

See, there's the root of the problem. Your friend sounds like he comes from a wealthy background if he's got a relative who's willing to spot him that much money on what's basically gambling.
I'm going with the assumption that the guy before was starting from literally nothing, in which case an education in a trade skill (plumbing, trucking, manufacturing or literally anything that's considered skilled labor) would put him much further ahead than he would be if he just started putting 20 or so dollars every now and then in the stock market.
