In a regular environment, ya I say they'd be a hedge. However, they are VERY short dated. I spend a lot of time looking at whale type options and I typically see hedge positions expiring months away if not years away. Just remember that these amounts seem "big" to us, but these people play around with millions and billions. Next few days will be interesting for sure.

>>23691954
Ya I can't wait for this bullshit to be over. Being a bobo even short term is gay as fuck.

>>23691969
Yes, like many things, sheets like this can be used as an indicator of what bigger investors are betting on. However, you should not place full faith in stuff like this as people can be wrong.

Thank you for your help. I appreciate the insight into actively managed ETFs and perspective on ARK's success. If Tesla turns out to be a dud, will Cathie actually drop it? Who knows.

My personal brokerage account is looking for higher risk than SPY and possibly even QQQ. QQQ/SLO as 2x leveraged ETFs might be good choices. I need to honestly ask if I can stomach the volatility. If I can't, I probably have too much on the line.

>>23344176
>You will be working your entire life if you're banking on whatever leftover investment income you have being enough to pay the bills if your all in SPY and the like. Unless you make like $500K a year, in which case carry on.

I'm definitely making no pretenses about retiring before I'm 60 to 65. If I had started this in my 20's or before I was married, maybe. I don't have the capital or risk tolerance to toss much into GME or similar ventures. I make about $78k in the rural midwest, no debt, and own three properties. We live in one of them and rent the other two for a little over $1k per month. We don't live in a prosperous area.

I think my approach is skewed given how much sense your idea of maxing out the 401k makes. If I'm too risk-averse to go beyond SPY and QQQ in my normal brokerage and my goals are decades away, it makes more sense to do this in a 401k. However, I feel the need for the brokerage account to be relatively liquid and with a higher degree of risk/reward. Even if I'm 33 and have a family to consider now, I still hope I'm young enough and make enough (for my area) to have somewhat higher risk tolerance outside of my retirement accounts. Thanks for your thoughts.

>Isn't that what S&P does?

I'll probably go with SPY/VOO in the end. I'm looking for 10+ year holds for my Roth IRA and HSA accounts, both of which I'm just starting. My 401k is 100% S&P 500.

I'm considering the ARK ETFs for my main brokerage account, but I'm not convinced if Cathie was lucky with TSLA, good enough for the picks of those ETFs, or both. I'm 100% cash at the moment.

I've posted this before a few weeks ago and received some good responses, but would like opinions from weekend /smg/ because it has quality discussion.

I'm 33 years old, married, and with a first child on the way. I have zero investments but make enough to comfortably support my family with my single income. Here's my plan:

>Company 401k matches up to 3%. Contribute 3% and put it 100% into SPY (their equivalent of SPY at a 0.25% expense ratio)

>Max out HSA contributions at $7,200 per year. Set aside what I think we will need for medical expenses and child care. Invest the rest 100% into SPY.

>Max out Roth IRA at $6000 per year. 50% QQQ 50% SPY, or 100% SPY.

>Brokerage account on Charles Schwab. Higher risk tolerance and receives any leftover capital. 50% SPY and possibly 25/25 QQQ/SOXX or 50% SPY and 50% ARKK.

I don't have to work my entire life and want my children to inherit the bulk of these gains. What do you think of this plan?

It seems to be better on the weekends, but I still rarely find myself bothering to take off my filter that places /smg/ at the top of the catalog. Even then, I'll sometimes ask questions in /smg/ about taxes, 401k, IRAs, etc and get better answers than I could anywhere else.

If I'm a boomer, is there any major concern about maxing out a Roth IRA and going 100% SPY if I intend to take out some of the initial capital from time to time? I mainly want to treat it like a savings account that actually has a chance of beating inflation.
