I've been cosplaying for a while, but only recently started buying and using premade/commercial patterns instead of just drafting my own. I followed the size guidelines on the back, which told me I was a 16 (even though I'm generally a size 8-10), and cut out everything, followed all of the instructions, etc., only to find that the mockup was ENORMOUS on me. I thought it might have been that particular pattern but then I tried another and the same thing happened... is there like a unspoken rule to ignore the measurement guide on the back on Simplicity patterns or something? Because I'm practically doing more work with all this altering than I would if I had just draped the project/made my own patterns...

Pic related, the second pattern I tried.
