Hey Gulls, I just got offered a job in Kitchener today and I've decided I'm going to take it, this is a big move for me because I live on the East coast and literally don't know anyone who's from there. I actually lived there for a year when I was like, 8, but I never stayed in tough with any of my friends from grade 2.

Is the Kitchener comm decent? Are many of you from there?

I went to a fabric store for the first time and was really off-put about it.
The workers there seemed really bitchy and weren't interested in helping me. I asked where I could find something to be used as mockup fabric and they told me to use muslin but the roll was almost $15/m and I asked if there was anything cheaper and they said there's no alternative if I'm "serious" about learning to sew. I tried asking them questions (just related to sewing, not cosplay), and they would sigh and speak with some fake happy tone like "what are you doing in this store if you don't know this and that" and just wanted to get out of there as fast as I could.
In the end I just bought some cheap cotton (which then they asked why I didn't buy a pattern or listen to them and use muslin like they said and then then told me that they wouldn't want to wear something I made) and was completely embarrassed leaving the store and am too shy to say anything back to them.

I'm really afraid to go back again and was completely intimidated by how the rude the staff was (it was all elderly women if that makes a difference) but there isn't a fabric store for a few towns over. What a great way to introduce myself into making my own costumes...

I'm so yellow by the looks of it I'm more yellow than some Asians. Pink or orange based western drugstore products do me nothing.

I can't even make new friends at a con because they all latch on to me and try to stick together the entire time. If I go to a shoot, they all wait in the area for the hour and as soon as it's over, pull me away so we can check out something else. I can't even attempt to approach new people because the group of 7 of them just stand right behind me waiting for my conversation to be over, and it's just awkward all around.
I've been going to cons with them since my second year of high school (I'm a second year in college now), and it just pains me to see so many cosplayers, especially new ones that started this year, easily make friends in the community while I've been solo-ing for the past 4 years... I would love to ditch them one year, but I don't have enough money to travel and stay at a con by myself so it's out of the question.
