Reminder that, even for cosplay, you should never dye your hair a super-unnatural color.

I stopped when I was simultaneously running low on money, and getting tired of it. I sold what I could (wigs, shoes) a few years back. Most of my friends were still heavy into it, and I thought they might also fall out of it, but, to the contrary, five years later they make more costumes than ever. I'm 28 and most of my friends that still do it are around that age. I honestly believe that cosplaying and going to as many cons as they do has stunted them emotionally in their mid 20s. The escape of "fun and friends!" is a crutch they use to not face the hard parts of life. There's usually always something they could be doing instead of sewing that would actually help them out considerably in their day to day lives. Watching the regional cosplay communities cesspool into one means they eventually met famous cosplayers, or cosplayers who might have landed work in part due to cosplay. They think that companies really care that you do it, and it'll give them an advantage at creative careers. That and the endless upset at photographers for not giving them attention, while still spouting "cosplay is fun! we do it for fun!" is aggrivating and immature.

I understand this hobby really helped a lot of us feel less lonely in high school and college, back when this was not all that mainstream, but they still have high-school level friendship and personal problems. It's a bit delusional. I know a few people who are capable human beings who still cosplay and enjoy it, and that's totally fine. I just find my other friends weirdly damaged by the obsession of being some underdog in the world.

>Each and every one of them is extremely vain and shallow people, who put on a facade of being humble but seem they would die if they didn't have the attention.
It's sad because most of them created that attention deficit through cosplay. I firmly believe that.

Pic semi related. You're too old to convince people you don't care what others think.
