I think the important thing that both sides of the fashion need to remember, is to live and let live. Lolita is different for everyone, and everyone is different. Enjoy what you love without telling someone else what they should be doing. It's okay if you like the more shallow side of the fashion, and it's okay if you are deep into the lifestyle stuff. Make Lolita your own beautiful fairy tale, whatever that means to you personally. We're all just trying to find our own happiness, so we all need to respect each other's personal quests.
