a shitty bodyline dress is on my dream dress list but im too embarrassed to admit it

i actually really wish bodyline would go back to making acceptable lolita basics bc im too lazy and dumb to order from taobao/use a shopping service for auctions

Historically, the lolita community has a lot of cross over with the anime/manga community where scanning / bootlegging shit is considered ok by a lot of people*.

As lolita attracted more people actually interested in fashion and it became apparent that brands actually cared about replicas, some members of the community pushed to have replicas banned on certain platforms like sales.

There was a lot of backlash from people who see lolita as their animu dressup clothes about elitiest meanie brandwhores being mean, so most lolita only pushed for sales comms to ban them and didn't push as hard for other platforms because replica-chans get so butthurt about it.

I think it's high time we stop putting up with so much costume tier shit and fakes in the fashion (if you want to play dress up that's fine, but it's not fashion when you are putting paper cut out things on your head and wearing a fake dress), and treat it more like an actual fashion and push replicas out of groups like CoF, but I doubt it will happen.

*Not all fans of anime pirate anime, nor do all lolita who pirate anime wear replicas, etc, etc. BUT there is definitely a very different culture among weebs and people who are into designer fashion when it comes to copyright. Granted, there are also weebs who are super into figures who get up in arms about fake figures too.

Spring is fadding away in the northern hemisphere. How do you say cool in 100+ weather and still stay lolita?
And for you southern hemisphere folks, I'm sure you're excited to finally break out your long sleeve blouses and coats again!

A lolita dress is going to set them back a couple hundred, max, and it's less than a lot of actual wedding gowns. That's not enough to rent anywhere.

It's clothing. If altering would make it suit you better, get it altered.

The only people who have an issue with alterations are people who have entitlement issues and think that other people don't have the right to their own property on the off chance that it might inconvenience them if they tried to obtain that property later.

It's like people getting upset about custom sizing that isn't their perfect size.

I've bought an altered skirt and I've had pieces modified and even dyed by a professional seamstress. Most of the alterations I've had done were to correct sewing flaws in the (brand) items but I have a brand skirt I'm going to add a bustle back to and a JSK I'm changing the straps/neckline of in the future. If I'm going to own things, I'm going to look cute in them.

Puppet circus is one of those weird prints where you can auction it off and no one will bid one week, and three weeks later it can go for a crazy price because three people wanted it.

Also, most of the girls I know who would pay the market price for that dress are also the sort of people who aren't interested in posting publicly that they want to buy something that pricey anyways. Certain members of the lolita community PM by default, and it's much more common with the more affluent ones than the average lolita. I don't know if it still happens, but in the past, there was a fairly big isssue with girls getting jelly over people who had rare pieces or large closets and harassing them. I know a number of lolita with large (100+ piece) closets and most of them have said they won't do closet posts because they are still concerned about harassment.

I'm just now starting to collect pieces to build a lolita wardrobe. However, I'm only interested in wearing classic, and I'm having a big hair problem: my hair is bright teal! I know the easiest solution is to wear a wig, but where I live, the weather can get miserably hot and isn't always an option.

So what's /cgl/'s advice for a newbie lolita with an unnatural hair color?

What's the go with tax on bought items? I was thinking about heading there with two outfits and an empty suitcase and coming back with a suitcase full of new clothes. How do they even know if you've bought it unless there's clearly tags n shit all over it?

>look around at all the fat, sweaty, poorly-costumed losers at cons and realize that these are the exact people sitting behind their computers trying to make everyone else feel insecure about themselves on 4chan
>stop cosplaying
>have a hard time enjoying cons anymore because of the hypocrisy and the nerd-on-nerd bullying
>MEANWHILE
>make a zillion friends in lolita
>take amazing trip to Japan
>get picked to model in brand shows
>gain self-esteem
>have closet full of gorgeous dresses that I love
>do photoshoots all the time
>gain an interest in fashions outside of Japanese stuff and start dressing well all the time
>college, highschool, and work friends think my lolita outfits and activities are awesome and ask me about them all the time, bringing us closer together

Cosplay had a negative influence on my life, but wearing lolita has been an overwhelmingly positive experience for me.
