(Sorry for the wall of text!)
Old school shouldn't be dismissed entirely by people that dislike the way it looked, this is where the fashion came from after all and without it we wouldn't be wearing lolita at all.
Not saying all people do this, but some surely do. You don't *have* to like it of course, but don't trash it.
I'm biased and nostalgic as I've been in the fashion for over 10 years and started with old school when it was still new iyswim.
It's more trend driven these days, and more central around prints and wearing a lot of accessories, where old school had less prints, more solids and was less OTT.
It was more creative and fun imo. Experimenting was ok, we learned from the mistakes.
Simple and dressed down co-ords were not looked down upon unlike they do these days. Simple & dressed down is not ita when done right, it can still be bold and rather a statement.
I liked the hair tutorials from GLB's, and the use of natural hair instead of wigs.
The aesthetic of the "old school" co-ords just speak more to me than the all decked out in the newest most popular AP print + matching accessories.
Velveteen was pretty popular back then, and I'm still a sucker for it now. I like the all black, white or pink co-ords, or striking black x white (deemed ita these days) or red x white.
I love rhs, platforms and the clunky shoes, these were all amazing to me.
Sweet was also very different back then, personally I think it was cuter.
Old school gothic is to die for, to me it's just perfection and this is where I still get my inspiration from this very day.
It just all comes down to personal taste and tastes just differ. Which is ok!
The newer things are lovely too. I think I prefer a bit of both worlds really.
