Contrast these with the original aesthetics of the Japanese lolita style

>I don't get why people like it
To answer seriously for me it's:
>Sturdy
I own both modern and old school pieces and although I care for both carefully I don't worry much about my OS dresses. When I wear newer pieces I feel like they're much more delicate. One snag and you've damaged tulle lace or chiffon. Plus, that heavy weight feels good on the skin
>The simplicity
I don't need 500 pairs of shoes and accessories for the OS end of my wardrobe, the colors are very simple and easy to coord and the shoes tend to be sturdier and more comfortable than the little short heels I have for my newer stuff.
>The look
I like the aesthetic, it's a little frumpy but it's comfortable and feels more natural. The details are more in construction: while I like the custom lace and print details, the pintucks and more subtle shaping of older stuff impresses me more. Newer Lolita looks more princessy while OS is more doll-like, almost like sized up antique doll clothes, which I love
>The vibe
There's a different attitude that you can see in old street snaps. It's a "Fuck you I know I look weird I don't care what you think" kind of thing. Lolita seemed more subcultury, if that makes sense. Old school clothes seem to lend themselves to lifestyle since they're easy to coord and wear. I also like how distinctive it looks too, lots of newer Lolita stuff other than OTT can be worn in otome or fancier, trendy normie outfits. OS on the other hand is very different and pieces are unmistakably Lolita with the chunkier lace and details.
Maybe some of it is nostalgia, maybe some of it is me coming from goth and historic reproduction fashion but that's the appeal to me.

>TLDR
>It's simple, it's got a different attitude, and new school can seem too "clean" and that heavyweight cotton is superb.

Also why haven't aprons made a comeback come on guys
