From personal experience, the majority of successful meeting and hookup at a con has come from girls approaching me. It's too random and easy to get into awkward/creeper positions just randomly talking to people, so you have to be really good at observing and reading people to make it work out.

If you're really that desperate you're better off trying to find people that will be going to a con like a month out and chatting them up on social media to see how things go. If you're looking into approaching people rather than hoping someone shows interest in you, this is your best option. At worst you make friends and can work through their social connections to find someone, and at best it's not really a random hookup sparing you the awkwardness of coming off as a creeper.

Nope, that isn't good enough. Women have very different ideas on what's attractive or not so it isn't that easy. What they're looking for tends to be pretty strict as well. Example, I knew a generously rated 6/10 girl that wouldn't settle for anything less than a tall, buff, asian guy. Really threw me for a loop because they approached me in order to hang out with my friend since they were too shy to go directly to them. FYI, last time I checked they were still single.
